Spanish and english are romance languages. We share a lot of cognates (words that sound similar) This is true for a lot of root words. Salsa is not a similar word contrary to these other individuals who have answered. It literally means sauce, not a sauce for chips only. brown sauce would be salsa moreno for instance. gasolina/gasoline, dia/day , diciembre/december noviembre/november. there are a slew of words that sound similar, get yourself a spanish/english dictionary that will give you all the words you need. ther romance languages are french, italian, and romanian spanish and english. They are all based on latin hence ROMANce. Hope that helps.
