Some conclusions of scientific inquiry have called into serious question some statements that appear in the Bible, particularly those made in Genesis about the origins of the Universe in general (and the Earth in particular), of life on Earth, and of Man, and it would behoove those with any common sense and reasonable amount of education to view such biblical accounts as legends and myths arising out of limited understanding of natural phenomena, rather than as factual accounts, but to say that "science has disproven the Old Testament" is very presumptuous.
The Bible, and presumably all other religious tomes, contains a mixture of facts, hypotheses, oral traditions, stories, legends, and myths, as recorded by human beings who may or may not have been inspired from within or without. Science has successfully challenged the small portion of the Bible that deals with origins, but has not "disproven" the bulk of its contents - and in fact has confirmed the veracity of some of the other parts of The Book.
It amuses me to read about and listen to staunch proponents of the Biblical myth of creation make such a fuss about the related findings of science and the Theory and Fact of Evolution, as though to admit the truth of these would destroy their faith in God. Faith in a Supreme Being should not depend upon the literal meaning or human interpretation of a book written by other humans. Such a book should only be a guide, and its disputable "facts" and unfair admonitions should be separated from its sensible laws and moral teachings.
No part of the Bible (or other such book) should be "thrown out", but it should be used more wisely by religious leaders and adherents.

Had you really known and appreciated the New Testament you'd have realized that its built on the Old Testament. The Old actually is full of pictures and types that are fulfilled in the New. Its a strong testament of what is real in the New Testament. Where would we be without Isaiah's prophesy of Jesus Christ? If the Tree of Life suddenly showed up in the Book of Revelation without first being seen in Genesis then how valuable would it be or meaningful for that matter!
If we pull out the Old Testament then there are many prophesies in Daniel that will not come into existence because its still to come.
We need to really realize that to take away the Old Testament is to pull the foundation out from under a house and think it'll still stand. The whole bible was carefully preserved and constructed in such a way that God fully sees. We as human beings are very limited but that does not mean that we should also be silly. We need both.. they compliment and fulfil eachother. Science has not disproved anything in the bible. Science is in one realm.. the bible is in another.. the Bible actuallly should have been read earlier by those who thought the earth was flat.. they'd have realized that the old testament reveals that the earth was a sphere.
intersting question...

Actually the Old Testament shouldn't be thrown out. The value the Old Testament shows is what people had to do before Jesus saved people. The New Testament shows what people have to do after Jesus saved people. If you are a spiritual person you will see the beauty of what Jesus saved us from and that makes it all that much more amazing to follow Jesus' example. Even though I still have faults I still will do my best to follow Jesus. So if nothing else, the Old Testament is like a history book. The New Testament is more current. And I fail to see how science has proven the Old Testament wrong. The Bible nor science have proved neither one wrong. Science cannot claim to disprove the Bible because there's no proof. The Bible cannot claim to disprove science because there's no proof. Actually I don't consider the Bible and science as enemies at all. I believe both of them are suppose to work together. The Bible is from the religious standpoint. Science is from more of a matter of fact standpoint. Combined I believe the Bible and science prove each other. Don't you think it's possible that maybe God created the Earth through evolution. Perhaps Creation and Evolution are the same theory. Evolution is the basic scientific explanations behind it. Creation is the religious explanations behind it. God's one day is not equal to an Earth day. One day for God could be 1,000,000 years nobody on Earth knows for sure but God Himself. I think both are right.

An exam of modern testomony passages shows us 4 important factors: a million) each and every time Christ seems in His resurrected kind and the day is stated, that's continually the first day of the week (Matthew 28:a million, 9, 10; Mark 16:9; Luke 24:a million, 13, 15; John 20:19, 26). 2) the in difficulty-free words time the Sabbath is stated from Acts by ability of Revelation that's for evangelistic purposes to the Jews and the putting is in a lot of circumstances in a synagogue (Acts chapters 13–18). Paul wrote, "to the Jews I grew to develop into as a Jew, that i'd win Jews" (a million Corinthians 9:20). Paul did not flow to the synagogue to fellowship with and edify the saints, yet to convict and shop the lost. 3) once Paul states "any further i will flow to the Gentiles" (Acts 18:6), the Sabbath is rarely back stated. and four) as a replace of suggesting adherence to the Sabbath day, something of the hot testomony implies the different (mutually with the only exception to point 3 above, found in Colossians 2:16).

I must say that the old testament is a bit of an embarrassment.
Read it to see how god changed from being a hooligan through to being the loving god that Christians believe in.
It also is responsible for all of the weird obsession with sexual denial and horrendous punishment regime.
Check out the pluralism in the David and Bathsheba story.
Get rid of it but not because science has disproved it. That's just not true, as it is an historical record.

No. I don't believe that science has disproven the old testament and No I don't believe we should through it out.
There are very nice stories of faith bound into those pages that can be a source of comfort to some people. Tell me that you're not one of "those" who burns a book because you don't agree with it.

If science disproved the Old Testament than the New Testament is also wrong because the NT claims the OT as the Word of God. If the Word of God is, at any one part, incorrect than it is all incorrect. So my question is; if God wrote the NT and in the NT affirmed the authority of the OT then wouldn't the OT be correct if the NT was correct?

Regardless of what Science does to the OT, it'll still always be leaps and bounds better than the NT. Because not until the NT is developed does the concept of eternal torture for finite 'crimes' come into play. The NT is far more evil and inherently wrong than the OT, in all of its silly ancient nonsense mumbojumbo could ever hope to be.
