I would take her in now. If she bred with a greman shepard then she will not beable to safley carry the puppies and it could kill her because of the size difference. Take her to the vet and have her checked out. He may recommend spaying her now.

Bummer.

No it wouldn't necessarily have 'torn her to shreds'. She's a miniature poodle I take it? If your shepherd is not neutered and the female is in heat, it's pretty likely they mated. Give the vet a call and ask when they will be able to determine if the dog is pregnant or not; they will not be able to tell right now.

Ask the vet if they can spay her now. Spaying a dog in heat is not done routinely, but isn't as big a deal as people seem to think - if she's pregnant, spaying her ASAP is a good idea.

For future reference, it is better to have a female spayed BEFORE she has her first heat. This is because it gives her maximum protection against mammary cancer - this protection decreases with every season she has.

There is no evidence of adverse effects due to spaying from 5 months of age. Certainly it does not stunt growth, as people seem to think. There are no medical advantages to allowing a dog to have one season/litter before being spayed, but there are certainly disadvantages to it.

I strongly recommend ringing a vet for their advice. I would think they will want to spay now, because this will put her at less risk than letting her bring the puppies to term - if she's a min poodle and has been mated by a shepherd, it's unlikely she'll be able to give birth to puppies this big without a caesarian, which is riskier than spaying in heat.

If it is a small poodle it's highly unlikely they would be able to do it because of the smaller dog and larger dog....the smaller dog would need a stool for the larger one to reach really...Just as soon as her heat is finished have her spayed immediately to allay your concerns. But I really don't think they could do anything other than both be frustrated by not being able to join together.

You need to contact your vet., give them days she's been spotting, when the heat cycle started and they will give you the best advice for your girl. I highly recommend getting her spayed ASAP, for one it's been proven that is she's spayed before her first heat cycle you cut the chances of her getting breast cancer down alot, also with the possible breeding the vet may recommend in the next couple weeks or so to be spayed. Call you vet. Good luck.

The best thing to do is go a head and take her in now to get her fixed if she was in heat you can bet she will be and the pups will be to big for her to have with out a c-section this alone is over $1,200 so for the health of her I would call your vet now

That is scary. My maltese is in heat right now too. I can't imagine coming home to find a big dog in my house. Avet can probably tell in a week or two if she is pregnant the same as we can get pregnancy tests to pee on at the drugstore. They also have a pill that they can give to dogs to terminate pregnancy if you so desire. and she is pregnant

It is possible that it happened. Take the dog to a vet and have an ultrasound done. If she is pregnant, the puppies can be aborted and she can be spayed. You should have him neutered as well. It will give both dogs much happier lives. Should have thought about that BEFORE she went into heat.

If you're going to have her spayed anyways, then it won't matter.

Just keep them apart until then.

Scary, if she's pregnant by him, it will.
