Hi, I'm looking into buying a Mustang GT next year, and I recently used the Build & Price feature on Ford.com to create an image and specification of the exact car I want, color, options, and everything.

The one thing I'm curious about is the "Destination & Delivery" fee: Does this mean the vehicle I'm "building" will be literally custom manufactured to every detail I've selected on the B&P feature and delivered to my local Ford dealer (after I contact my local dealer as it says to do), reserved for me to buy and take home?
Or does it mean something else entirely, such as seeking out close matches to the car I've designed?

It doesn't say anything about the exact after effects of contacting your local dealer with the B&P info you've put in, it just tells you to contact them and discuss the desired car.

Ordering a vehicle to your specifications is a very common practice.
You will need to bring the print-out of your preferences to the dealer.

You CAN negotiate a price.
You can lock in the price that has been negotiated. (There are price increases throughout the model year)

You cannot lock in the Destination charge, it is subject to increases as well. The Destination charge is NOT negotiable & will be printed on the "window sticker" The Destination charge is "averaged" so it will be exactly the same for any Mustang no matter how near or far youy dealer is from the assembly plant.
All Fords must be ordered through a Ford dealer, & nobody can go to a factory pick one off the assembly line.
Normal wait time for a Mustang is 6-8 weeks but if you are ordering a limmited production model it could be MUCH longer. (Bear in mind that the plants shut down for scheduled holiday time, so waiting time may be longer right now)

You can take advantage of any incentives that are in affect at the time of taking delivery, but incentives that are in affect when you order will NOT be locked in.

Normally a dealer will try to locate for you. They will search other dealers inventory for a vehicle that matches your specifications so that you don't have to wait.

I don't advise you to wait for the next model change (if you like this one). You may NOT like the next model & then you might not be able to find one that is exactly what you want. At that time it would be too late to order to your specs.

I hope this helps.

You can have the car ordered exactly how you want it and it will be built especially for you. The only downside to this is that you won't get the best deal. They won't give you any rebates or special financing on an ordered car. I don't think Ford is offering any special deals on the Mustang right now anyways. Your best bet would be to check out all the dealerships in the area and find the car that you want. Then you can get a better deal.

PS. I would wait until the fall next year. Ford is supposed to be comming out with an updated model in 2009. You can either get the new 2009 model, or get a really good deal on a leftover 2008 model.

If they don't have it already in stock, then it will be to be manufactured for you... but, "it just tells you to contact them and discuss the desired car" is where you should start. You'll probably get a better deal on a similar car they already on their lot.

Wait for the Bullitt Mustang to come out next January, much more worth it.

it is either in stock or they build it for you. The destination charge is the shipping to the geographic location where you live. Mine was delivered to my driveway(thank you dealer)

I BOUGHT A CHEVY TRUCK LIKE THAT, I ORDERED IT AND IT TOOK 8 TO 12 WEEKS BEFORE IT ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, YOU NEED TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH DEPOSIT THEY WELL REQUIRE. AND YES YOUR NEW MUSTANG WILL BE BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP, THAT'S THE FUN IF IT, ITS YOURS!!! BUILD IT YOUR WAY!!!!!!!!!!
