Well they don't get Rottweilers to lead the blind ... Labradors are famous for their calm temperament and affectionate nature. Most people would consider that a good thing.

Labrador

These are both great dogs to have, however I'd say to go with the labrador.
One of the things that I found out too late for my rottweiler, was that rotts are prone to arthritis, hip problems, and a plethora of other illness as they get older.

Rott all the way! My family use to breed and show Rotts and they are wonderful dogs if raised properly. They are very affectionant, loving, protective and great with kids and other animals if like I said they are rasied right. I have been around them all my life and they are just wonderful dogs. Not that I have anything against labs i just prefer rotts

Statistically speaking, labs and other retrivers have the HIGHEST percentage of reported bites in America. They are very good dogs though. And when trained and raised properly, make wonderful companions.

Personally, I would go with the Rotties. They are very loyal and sweet. Of course, it's the same it would be with a lab, they need a lot of training and need to be raised properly.

Either choice would be wonderful.

That's a tough one. Both are loyal and loving. Both have a huge play drive. The Lab tends to shed more, but with good grooming they're both managable. The one downside with Rotties is the way their hind legs are structured...they're so straight that Rotties tend to injure them as they get older. Both are great with kids, although you should never leave any dog alone with young children.

It's your choice. Both are great breeds, and I highly recommend either of them. Good luck!

You should choose what kind of dog you want based on what kinds of activities you are interested in. If you are a high-energy person who likes to exercise, if your a mover and shaker and can be intense and patient--then go for the Lab. Rotweillers are more suitable for lower-energy people. They are work dogs, but do not require the same kind of strenuous exercise (not that they need less!). I do not recommend choosing a Rot based on protection, because many of them are not interested in protecting, and many that are become very dangerous. I hope this helps, feel free to contact me. Most of my earned points come from helping people with their dogs.

retrieving? Labrador
herding? Rottweiler

You should study both breeds in an indepth manner before you chose. What you decide should depend upon what you need/want the dog to act like and what you are capable of doing as far as training etc... your lifestyle makes a lot of impact.

rottweilers in my personal experance are great dogs! I've had them all my life including whie I was growing up. They are great with kids and very friendly. Just like anyother dog though you need to take the time to treat and train them the right way. HTH

a labrador is a very kid friendly dog. there very loving and compassionate. there attentive and obedient. rottwielers how ever tend to be a little meaner. but they also provide excellent protection. try getting a lab and rott mix. ive seen them and they are adorable and the best of both worlds :)
