If you need to study from a textbook, I found the following process invaluable: While reading the textbook start to write notes on a sheet of paper as to what you or your teacher might think is important. Do not highlight or underline in the book. This does not help you to remember. Write down facts that could be asked on a test. You don't even need to write down full sentences, just fragments that will trigger the rest of your memory of the subject. The connection between your hand and your eye of writing helps your ability to remember about 50%. By the end of the chapters, you should be left with a few sheets of paper that you need to study from and don't need the book anymore. This may seem time consuming, but it works. (Even on university level material.)

Study in different places and atmospheres, and for no more than 45-60 minutes at a time. Your brain seeks complexity, and reading the same material, in the same place, with the same sounds and atmosphere around you will bore it, and 'turn it off'.

Studying in different places gives your brain places and things to relate to the things you're studying.

For example, you may see a question on the test, and remember where you were when you were studying that answer. The relation to where you were will spawn further memories and jog that information back out to the forefront.

someplace quite and I make acronyms for things. That got me through my Master's Degree and Law school....like if the answer is: Condensed, Verification and Adjudication. I will take the first 3 letters of each word CVA and make up a funny saying like Cats Veg Apples...
