Some, many, believe simply based on how they were raised. They give it no further thought. I was like that until my teenage years... By the way, I consider myself Christian, but NOT "religious" in the typical sense. So, others I think look around and decide that there must be a God, or that He doesn't exist, as a very simple decision. I imagine there are plenty that do things that way. Many I'm sure endure some hard time and base their decision off that - either, "There must not be a God because why would He allow this to happen?" or, "This happened and it's a miracle that I made it through it, God must exist." Others take the time to research - these are the people I respect most. Those who take the time to research, reading the Bible, other books, and then formulate an opinion based on their other opinions as well as any factual evidence. If someone has made a definite opinion in one way or the other, even if I am in total disagreement, it means that they at least gave it thought, studied, and are making an intellectual decision on what they want to believe and why they want to believe it. I do NOT like the ones that know the story of Noah's Ark, Adam & Eve, the Crucifixion of Christ, and then bash every single person who has a glass of wine at dinner with their own self-righteous identity.

I believe in God and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I struggle with the Christian churches because they are too lukewarm and wishy washy.

The God of the KJV Holy Bible is the One true God and His prophets who transcribed His Word have never been wrong about a prophesy. Because of the Jews returning to the Holy Land as prophesy proclaimed this is a number one fact of why the Bible is true. By returning they fulfilled many prophesies - a nation born in a day - flying back on wings of eagles(airplanes) - speaking same language Hebrew, etc. Airplanes weren't even thought about when this was written.

Isaiah 30:25 "....in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall."

Follow Jesus and do not follow religions or churches or people. Learn of the Lord.

religion is to give someone something to believe in. Its like ABC. majority of people don't believe in something they cannot see. So religion is made to give people an idea of what, who is and a glimpse of God. When you believe that god is here there and every where, omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent then you are not bound by religion. those who dont believe are to far away from god and denies his reality and thereby dont believe in him,, they get caught up in this material world thinking thats it right here. truth, as is the action so is the reaction,, they have a choice whether to accept or not and what is to be will be,, there is a reason for everything, even the believers and non believers a purpose for them all.

I can only speak from a Catholic Christian point of view.

Being religious carries obligations beyond just "being good." It also requires that we (religious people) recognize and submit to an authority that is higher than we are. This is a real toughie for some.

There is also the huge question "Why do bad things happen to good people," that Christians can't even answer to their own satisfaction, much less that of a non-believer.

There is much that Christians cannot explain, but then, that's why we are called "people of faith." We believe in the mysteries of God that we can't even begin to understand.

But there are levels of commitment to belief in God - It is easier to believe in God than it is to believe that God knows us personally, and has an interest in us. Even harder to believe is that God became physical, walked about on Earth, and allowed himself to be sacrificed as payment for our sins. And one step further - as a Roman Catholic, to believe that the Body and Blood of Christ himself is present our communion (The Eucharist), and that the Eucharistic Celebration is not a merely a symbolic act.

Christians are people of faith - faith in something we cannot prove. The only answer I can give to "why" I believe is "just because."

I'm technically an atheist, though I do have a religion, and I can tell you that religion is generally socialized. People are often secure in their beliefs and faith simply because they were raised in them. It's comfortable and familiar.

Otherwise, people tend to believe in things which make them feel good, and things which alleiviate their fears. Simple selective understanding, in order to protect the emotional/mental health of the individual.

1. Jesus Christ risen from the dead got me.
2. Also, he has changed my heart & opened my eyes. The night he opened my eyes was incredible. I was laying in bed, thinking, dealing with emptiness & hopelessness then SUDDENLY everything became clear, I realized I needed salvation & asked him to come and be my savior. I experienced peace that I never had before.

PS- no one in my life was trying to even convert me. It happened by myself, in a non-Christian household. I went from sorrow and emptiness, to peace with God & with my state. Sorry, that is just MY story of why I believe.

I don't think any one really has an answer. How can two people look at something, let's say a car..one loves it ..the other hates it... I see proof of God everywhere..an Atheist sees no proof any where. We both are entitled to our beliefs.
