I have never had a beer before and I'm about to have my first beer. I want it to taste good, but I'm not sure which ones are really good.

There have been some good suggestions. Since this is your first though, you won't really be able to say whats good or bad. Like others have stated, beer is an aquired taste, especially beers other than the usuall domestics like budwieser, coors, miller, micholobe and such. Beer is also a very personal thing, IMO. whats tastes good to me might not taste that great to you. That being said, here are some you should probably stay away from since its your first.

Old English (Malt Liqueur) - if you're going to a bar i doubt they'l have these two anyway
Colt 45' (Malt Liqueur)

My personal favorites are Bluemoon, Amber Bock, Shiner Bock, ****** Modellos, Abita Purple Haze(Razberry Wheat Beer), Guiness( a stout - very dark, thick and almost coffee like in flavor, so if you like coffee you might like this.)

I have a good friend of mine that absolutely hates beer except for one..Bluemoon. Its very smooth, no after taste. Just be sure a drink it ice cold, its not that great when its warm. The orange is optional

hope this helps man.. enjoy

Go with the real thing, take it from a brew connoisseur I ride with the Clydales--when you say Budweiser--you've said it all.
That's when I'm OUT.cause I can't find my true love anywhere but the supermarket! It is as old as I am From the land of Sky Blue Waters (which by the way I have on my site)
Hamms the Beer Refreshing! Hey Roccoc, I kind of agree with you as long as the mug is good and iced and if it's a real hot day, or I've got Brats or pizza, and make sure it's almost froze, well I've never tasted a bad tasting beer either. I even like lemon or tequila beer, hell lets face it (smile) I just love me some beer period! As a matter of fact, think I'll go and hook up with one right now!

Other than people saying their favorite beer, I would say Stella Artois is the best for someone who has never had beer. Domestic beers are acquired tastes (and generally not good beer anyway) and you would especially want to stay away from stouts like Guiness (although very good with a few years under your belt).

Liking the taste of any beer is an acquired taste in my opinion.

They all taste different. I have friends that like the dark heavy beers from places like Scotland and Germany, and others that prefer the classic American beers like Bud, Coors, and Miller, etc.

I think if this is your first time tasting beer, make it a light one. The darkers beers have a strong bite to them.

Enjoy!!!!!

that is a load question. as yo can see everyone has a different favorite. With beer it is a trial and error pratice. I have been drink for a long time. traveled the world and drink different kinds all over. All and all i would estimate that i have tried over a hundred different kinds and brands. I would suggust that you get with a couple of friends and get a six pack of the each of the majorly offered stlyes. an amber, bock, blonde, ipa, pale ale, an ale, a lager and then the general good old fashion americans, either bud, coors, or miller. The only to find wha you think is the best is to try a lot. Personally i like Shiner bock or shiner blonde

Alexander Keith's Pale Ale, truly tasty and bold but not sickeningly so.
If I were you I'd start with a Pilsner type beer, they're lighter in taste and easy to enjoy then you could slowly make your way up to a delicious yet somewhat acquired Guiness..The best beer of them all!!

Blue Moon is one of my favorites, with a slice of orange.

They also have Full Moon, a seasonal white ale. Try it before it leaves the shelf.

Also, some good bottled Hefeweizen:
(with a slice of lemon)

Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier
Paulaner Hefe-weizen

And last, another favorite brand is Fat Tire:

Sunshine
Mothership Wit
Blue Paddle
1554
Abbey
Trippel

Rolling Rock. I hate the taste of beer all together but I sipped on my boyfriend's Rolling Rock and actually liked it. It's not bitter like other beers. Another good one is Blue Moon.
