I am not for amnesty in any form, being I see the fall out from the one time amensty of 1986, where 3.1 millions were given amnesty and that was suppose to solve the problem, and being we now have at least 20 million and more coming each day. The issue was not on the forefront of the American people, but after 911 we had the lessons of unsecured borders flap us in the face.

911 happened in 2001, and the debate and marches for amnesty did not take place until 2006, why such a time delay

I think Bush as all set to bring up the amensty issue, being he and Fox had already had talks about a speical immigration deal, that would allow those illigal Mexico here to be granted amnesty, and allow more to come under a guest worker program, but 911 put a stop to that

9/11 was a horrendous wake up call to the vulnerable USA. But those stupid marches put most of us over the line. To see our nation's flag being burned and the disrespect that those illegals showed for our laws and our people was the straw. I've never thought it was right for anyone to be here illegally but now I know it's not right. The American people have had it, we have a generous immigration policy but the world demanded more? I don't think so. We have it tough enough now without supporting every person in the world who wants to live here. All illegals should be deported on recognition. It's the law!

I don't think so, no. It probably would have been brought up earlier, but the fact of the past Amnesty and it's spectacular failure as a tool of immigration reform - and overwhelming success as a means of attracting more illegal immigrants - would still have been there for opponents to bring up. It might have had a better chance of success, but not a done deal.

Of course, the world would have been a very different place today, without 9/11, so other factors could have made it more or less likely.

I do not think that an amnesty will happen again not in our life time. Many Americans are fed up with the illegal immigration problem, as are many legal immigrants who spent thousands of dollars to come here to live and work. Why should illegals bypass the immigration policy?

This issue has strong opinions for the majority of people you talk to. So I can not imagine the government allowing another amnesty for illegals. Just looked what has happened in New York, you can see from the response of the American public that it is not going to happen any day soon

If they have any amnesty they can refund my $25,000+ I have spent so far on getting visas and green cards for my family. As why should I have to jump through hoops to live here, and you want to hand illegals a green card?

No, wouldn't make one bit of difference to me. 911 has nothing to do with millions of illegal aliens here mooching off the American People. Having unsecured borders is definitely a national security risk but if 911 had not happened I would still be against illegal immigration and giving them amnesty.

No, Americans were stunned when they learned that there were 12 to 20 million illegals in our country (it may be as high as 38 million). Many Americans have been victims of crimes, harassment, loss of jobs, and have been forced out of their communities because of massive illegal immigration.

The threat of terrorism is a really good reason to increase the security of our borders, but it has only a minimal effect on those of us who support getting tough on the illegal alien invaders. Also, we were angered by the disrespect the illegal alien crowd showed to our country and flag during their demonstrations last year. No Reconquista!

I would said yes. The problems we are currently having is because they were many loopholes on the Immigration law in 1986.
Regarding the unsecured borders I am not agree with you because for years the borders has been so easy to crossed north and south and nobody didn't paid attention to it until the most tragic event who change our lifes forever. 9/11.

No, not so much 9/11. But, I think all of the protesting in the streets 2 years ago opened a lot of eyes to how bad the situation is getting.

911 has nothing to do with Illegal Mexican immigration..

As for the one time amnesty of 1986...what part of ONE TIME does anyone not understand?

2007-11-16 16:33:23 · answer #8 · answered by GUARD DOG 4 · 4 0

No, it wouldn't. Americans are still very much against giving a "Free ride" to those who have cut into line.

One thing that does make me feel better is now the illegal aliens are going to Canada to try to make a quick buck, and NOT sucking the money out of the USA any longer.

No because there was already a lot of opposition to it even before 911.
