I agree, I am fed up of being labeled a liberal solely because I am an atheist. It is not remotely true.

I'm a Christian and like to think of my politics as liberal socialism, but Christians are voters too, and can vote any way they want. I think in America Christianity has definitely got mixed up with the extreme right, which I think is a shame, but I'm English and it's not such a big deal over here.

Why do people mix up anything with anything? In this case, it's because they want you to transfer your hatred and fear of Communism to atheism. It's like when people say "Gay marriage? What's next, marrying your dog?"

That said, let's not get too PC. Most Christians ARE right-wingers politically. Atheists tend to be liberal. The exceptions prove the rule. I don't see any point in pretending that there's no basis for the stereotypes.

Because *traditional* communism, Marxism, demands atheism. This is the communism adopted by Castro, Russia and China. Although it may be true that not all forms of communism demand atheism, Marxist Communism does, and that is the type of communism we all think of when communism is mentioned.

Christians are notorious for stereotyping and loathing those who are the slightest bit different from them. The fear diversity as much as they fear the world itself.

It's human nature to generalize. Of course there are exceptions but when you want to simplify anything, generalizations appear.
