I agree with you. People are very disrespectful to each other these days, and not just on here. I see it in everyday life. The other day while I was waiting in line at the gas station, a group of girls started picking on a girl because of a sweatshirt she was wearing. I'm not even sure what it said, but they flat out told her she was a loser and stupid for wearing it, and they nearly reduced her tears. I'm sure it was nothing harmful or offensive, because it sounded like they just thought it was stupid and something they didn't like. I felt very bad for her. No one has the right to be rude like that. It is completely unneccessary.

I know exactly what you mean. My theory about it is that when you're on the internet, whether your a pro fighter or a stick that could die if he/she was prodded, the internet gives you a mask to hide behind.
When your on the internet there is a high chance that you may never actually meet the person your talking to, and also it just takes the quick hit of the enter key to say what you feel were as when your talking some things can be hard to say. You could type something and as soon as you hit the enter key there is no going back its that easy to express yourself.
What I don't like is arrogant people who think that they are so great or people that believe that they are right, and people in games who accuse yourself of hacking. But I've gone off topic slightly but that's what I think it all about. People need to be nicer. :D

I absolutely agree with you. I think about this all the time. It's very prevalent here in Yahoo Answerland. But it's all over the road, at the grocery store, on the other side of your condo wall....
People live VERY defensively. Everyone is ready to pick a fight and/or ready to defend themselves in a fight. They assume people are trying to take advantage of them. You see this on the road. Instead of assuming that the person who just cut me off had a good reason for doing so or just made a sincere mistake, I assume he was being a jerk and is out to get me in some way. Why?? Do I never accidentally cut people off? Why do I assume that the person who gets too close to me in line at the grocery store is just ignorant and rude? Could it be that they just weren't raised to know about my ridiculous concept of personal space??
This whole problem could be quickly rectified if people would just learn, again, to love each other and put other people first. That's all it takes. Instead of looking at people warily, smile at them. And that goes for online communities. Be kind. It sounds trite. But something needs to change. It's all so... Hostile!

Unfortunately that's more and more normal these days. But, if you think about it, it's easier to be a jerk on the internet, and see more jerks on here than real life, because there are 100s of users on here and how many real people are you exposed to during the day?

You asked for it, now every jerk on here is gonna respond as rudely as possible. No, we don't live in that type of environment. Yes, it has become more acceptable to wittiness bad behavior and do nothing. The real question is why?

I think that society as a whole has gotten ruder and more insensitive. The other day, a older lady called me at work and wanted help with a problem. She kept telling me that she was a pastor, but she did not act like one. Finally, when I couldn't help her, she said, "But I'm a pastor, you chicken****!"
That really wasn't Christ-like behavior.

It is easier to be a jerk on the inter-net because the person is annonymous. You don't have to be accountable for your input because there is little or no accountability. It takes far more courage to speak your mind in person when you are accountable for what you say .I think the inter-net is similar to beer muscles.... artificial courage ( and no conviction)

You mean you prefer a society where everyone believes what you believe and you don't have to face a world where your personal delusions are not reinforced by everybody you come into contact with? Yeah, that sucks.
Things are worse than ever, and it's always been that way.
