What's the consensus on this? Am I being paranoid or a good mother? I have a son with developmental disabilities, and I don't want my 3 y.o. to suffer this as well. I'm sure my insurance would cover it. Best to err on the side of caution? I'd hate to imagine if he tested positive, I would sue the h.ell out of them!

Thoughts???

If you can afford it, or if your insurnace covers it, absolutely!

You're talking about your kid's future. Better safe than sorry.

Besides, there's bound to be a class action suit and you don't want to miss out.

I'm not saying we should throw caution to the wind, but what about all of our parents and grand parents? They certainly didn't care about lead testing back then and they are fine. If it makes you feel better to get the test done then do it. A good parent takes precautions to know that their children are safe. But I do think we are overreacting just a little. But then again, when our economy doesn't suck so much we might be able to rely on our own factories to provide toys for children rather than those overseas.

I think you have every right, as does everyone else, to test the toys that you plan to give out as gifts. The unsuspecting child who trusts that all is good, would greatly benefit from an adult's "paranoia" as you put it, and why put children in harms way by being blase about it? I definitely am afraid to purchase toys, especially those made in China, for all 3 of my grand-kids. It would break my heart for something to negatively impact their health, physically &/or mentally, especially if it was due to a gift I gave them. There is a website you and others can access re: recalled toys, it is:

www.cpsc.gov

I'd much prefer safety over sorrow!

In order for the lead in the paints to have an affect on your child, he/she would have to have ingested or chewed on a substantial amount of the paint. The chances of having more than a negligible amount of exposure is pretty small, but if you are concerned, then it wouldn't hurt to have a test done just to be on the safe side.

Unless they are eating the toy there is no need. This is being blown way out of proportion. There are probably people with more lead in their house then in any one of those toys.

It wouldn't hurt to get them tested. It better to be safe then sorry. My childs life is very precious so I would do whatever it takes to keep her safe. I wouldn't worry about being too paranoid .. do it for their own good!

its ok to get them tested if you wanted. though i heard for the recalled toys to affect your child... your child would have had to have this toy like in their mouth for like hours and hours and hours every day....
