"When she was no longer able to conceal him, she then took for him an ark of papyrus and coated it with bitumen and pitch and put the child in it and put it among the reeds by the bank of the river Nile. 4 Further, his sister stationed herself at a distance to find out what would be done with him.

5 After a while Phar′aoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the Nile River, and her female attendants were walking by the side of the Nile River. And she caught sight of the ark in the middle of the reeds. Immediately she sent her slave girl that she might get it."-- Exodus 2:3-6 It doesn't give an exact amount of time... I'll research some more though.

**Edit... Nope. Couldn't find anything further than "After a while" mentioned in verse 5. Couldn't have been too long though because his sister was watching the whole time and appeared after Pharaoh's daughter found him in verse 7.

Ahh, very good trick question. The word ark is the same word for the basket that Moses was in.

His sister put him in and then watched from a distance until the Pharoah's daughter came and got him. The time isn't specified.

You may be thinking of the 3 months he was hidden away before he was put in the "tevat" or ark.

It doesn't say "how long":

"And there went a man of the house of Lev, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with Pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink. And his sister [see Miriam] stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children." (Exodus 2:1-6 KJV)

Probably a few hours because he was crying when Pharoah's daughter found him.

Exodus 2:6 - "When she opened it she got to see the child, and here the boy was weeping. At that she felt compassion for him, although she said: 'This is one of the children of the Hebrews.'”

no time spent on a big boat (he preferred walking across dry land...) but as far as the ark of the covenant goes, he was up in the mountain for 40 days.
