Last week I was chewing on my fingernails, (bad habit, I know) and my nail slipped and it felt like it sliced my gums open. There was no bleeding but it stayed sore for a few days. It's still sore but only if I touch it. There is also a small white bump, I'm describing it looking like a zit, in that same area. What could this be? And why would it have been this painful with it just being a scratch?

It happens when you cut your gums... It's a little infection but nothing to worry much about. Your mouth is trying to heal itself, but unlike your skin, scabs don't really form the same way in the mouth.

2 suggestions- Try gargling with salt water and that will help clean out your mouth and the area. Also, if it's really painful, try putting Ambisol (I think is the name of the product...). That will help numb the area when it hurts too much. It will heal in a week or so.
