I don't like yams either there is 1 way I will eat them. I got stuck making side dishes for this thanksgiving. I am doing yams also. This is what I'm gonna do.
(2) 29 oz cans yams drained and mashed
about 3/4c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 stick melted butter
My mom says beat it all in a bowl and add the brown sugar and taste keep adding till it is as sweet as you like it. After it tastes good pour it in the greased dish and cover with marshmallows. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes covered and then uncover and let the marshmallows brown. I absolutely hate sweet potatoes and yams. But these are actually okay, quick, and easy! Hope this helps

The way I learned to do the Yams/Sweet Potatoes growing up was to melt butter in a skillet, add brown sugar, add the yams (after draining off any juice). Mash everything together and heat until caramalized. Serve.

My Sis-In-Law used to put the Sweet potatoes in a cake pan, sprinkle with mini marshmallows and heat in the oven along with the Green Bean casserole but only for about 10-15 minutes - until hot and the marshmallows melted. She put a little of the juice from the Sweet Potatoes in the pan but not all the juice from the can.

I just wrote about this the other day. Because I actually perfer savory yams over sweet. Here is my recipe
Blue Cheese Sweet Potatoes

4 medium sweet potatoes
½ cup Gorgonzola Cheese( you can use other blue cheese, gorgonzola is creamier)
1 ½ Tbsp Butter
1 tsp chopped green onions (green part only) or use chives
salt and Pepper

Preheat Oven to 375°

Bake sweet potatoes or yams until they are fork tender, about 45 minutes to an hour) You can also microwave them if you are in a hurry. I try to do them in the oven for the extra roasted flavor.

Once potatoes are done and cooled down enough to handle, remove all the flesh and discard the skin. Add the rest of the ingredients and mash together. You don’t want it to be smooth. This is rustic. Place in casserole dish.

If you are not a fan of blue cheese you can use any cheese you like.

For all i know they're each yams or each candy potatoes. I discovered that washing and reducing off both pointers of a sweet potato (i'm relating to the reddish skinned variation) after which rubbing with butter or margarine and cooking it within the microwave or oven like a baked potato may be very tasty. Then I dispose of it from the oven - break up it open - add butter, salt and pepper. For those who rubbed the epidermis with butter you're going to come to be with a very tasty and candy epidermis. Peel and cut into about 1 1/2 inch size pieces, put them into a greased casserole dish, sprinkle with cinnamon, and dot butter all around, sprinkle with brown sugar, pour maple syrup over them and bake at 350 until soft and tender. We call them candied yams.

this recipe is the best, we make it on turkey day every year, sweet potatoes can be subsitutes for yams, don't be weirded out by the marshmallow and yam combo, this recipe has been around forever, and for good reason too! happy eating :)

Bake them with some spices and a whole bunch of marshmallows on top. I don't remember the recipe off the top of my head, but you should be able to find a similar one online.
