It spreads...shingles are very contagious and just because you have them in one area does not mean that they will not crawl to other susceptible areas. Usually they give you medication for the pain and antibiotics to help curve the length of your outbreak, sometimes ointments. Just stay away from senior citizens and babies if you are not going to get treatment.

The biggest danger is that shingles can damage the optic nerve and cause blindness - this happens occasionally. It is also possible that shingles can damage other important nerves such as those involved in swallowing and hearing, although this is extremely rare.

My mom had shingles and when she went to have it treated she discovered she had cancer and she didn't make it. Go check it out
