Do you think that they are not being paid enough, you would think that there would be some sort of royalties contract agreement that should of went in force when they started writing for thier specific show?

I agree about royalties, and they do have a big part in the show, even actors get royalties for reruns, I do believe that one person should get it all, when everyone does the work.

Most writers don't make in a year what one actor on a tv show makes in an episode. They had a contract that just expired and their new contract wasn't allowing them to make their fair share of shows released on DVD, online, or in other formats, so they chose to strike instead of signing an unfair contract. Any job that has a union will do the same thing if they think they're getting treated unfairly. The entertainment industry is a billion dollar a year industry, and without the writers it would fall on its face. They need to be treated as the valuable part of the industry that they are.

The thing the writers are going for now are the royalties from material they wrote that is being seen online. It's still their work, but they arent being compensated for it at all. Writers work can be very sporadic and if you have a family to feed, you need to get paid for the work you do. There are a a lot of writers who are never heard of but, it doesnt make their work any less valuable.

There are contracts, or there were, they just expired recently. That is why the strike is happening now, it is time to re-negotiate and get a new contract.

Yes, they are being greedy, and they also have reason. The two are not mutually exclusive. Writers on popular shows can make obscene amounts of money, but nto as obscene as anyone else involved. They have just as much to do with a shows success as anyone else, why shouldn't they get a cut of -all- the profits, no matter where the money comes from?

It's not a matter of how much they are being paid, it's that they were part of the creation of many shows that are being put out on DVD and the big wigs are reaping all the proceeds. This country has to learn to reward the little man that is doing the grunt work and maybe not let the big wigs make 50 billion a year, Why can't they maybe make it on...say 35 billion? Go Writers!

I dont beileve in STRIKES for any reason or for any job.. if you dont like where you or what you get paid, then find another line of work.. this is america, there are no slaves here anymore..

I heard the striking writers saying that its just a few cents from each DVD and cell phones etc, they should just give it to us.. well if its just a few cents, it really doesnt matter if you dont have it either, its not gonna send them to the homeless shelters.. what they are doing is hurting the fans who watch the shows..

I don't know ALL of the details but I do know that they get a tiny percentage of the total income that the show brings in. Look at how much money actors and actresses make PER SHOW. Where would they be without good writing? Writers never get ample recognition.

I don't believe they are getting the royalties due them for their work. With the technological advances over the last decade, their contracts are antiquated and do not provide adequate protection for the use of their work. The strike is justified - but, it's a pain!

I dont hink they are being greedy at all.I seen the salaries of some writers in Hollywood.$50,000.00 a year.Pitiful when the actor is making 10 million a movie or 1 million a show.Like Friends actors were making.
They deserve a slice of the pie as well.

Greedy. Anytime I hear a group complaining they want more profits but refuse to share in potential losses, it reeks of greed.

When I hear the Writers Union come out and say "we want roylaties from on-line content, but we will also share in the losses of on-line content" I will say they are being fair.

They want the rewards without the risk, its called entitlement.

The studios risk millions of dollars to make one episode fo a show, a writer risks.....nothing. they get compensated upfront. So for those millions in risk, they get handsomely compensated. Those without risk, aren't as heavily compensated. Thats how it should be.

And I love being thumbed down, it just shows the true nature of our society. I want, I want, I want, but someone else needs to fix it if it messes up. This is why America is going down the drain folks, the entitlement and "me, me, me" generations are pathetic.
