For an interview I feel I should be dressed up, but if I'm going to be in the kitchen all night as well, shouldn't I be in not so nice clothes and heels?

Heels denote not getting the idea regardless of the position.

Slacks and a loose shirt. Something that will look decent fronthouse but you can work in backhouse. He is not looking at what your wear as that can be changed later. He is looking at if you can get your hands dirty and be gracious up front. The hands dirty is the key. There are a million women who can look nice.

If after asking the owner what you should wear that night, you still don't know. Try black dress pants and a sweater set. Dressy / Classy and casual enough.

Wear black slacks and a button down shirt with comfortable flats. If you'll be in the kitchen, you'll need rubber soled shoes.

You should call the owner and ask. He might have something in mind. If you showed up in something the owner thought was ridiculous, wouldn't you feel stupid for not having called to find out in the first place?

depends on the type of restaurant...but for the most part black flat dress shoes.. black slackes...black/white button down , and a light blazer if you want...always have your hair pulled back in to a bun or neat ponytail off your face, makeup should be light no heavy eye liner, eye shadow should be a light brown or light pink whatever looks better on your skin tone, clear gloss or nude lipstick on lips...no perfume it could bother others, clear or nude nail polish, one ring, small hoops or post in ears only one set..no face piercing and a smile!

Black dress pants, white dress shirt, comfortable black shoes (sneaker like, but not sneakers).. very standard for a restaurant .... maybe a black jacket too, to dress it up a touch if needed... (works for males or females)

All black is best for shadowing.

Wear the same type of clothes you would any other day. I would imagine they have aprons.
