Atheists don't believe in God so they can't be dead set against him. As for the whole Christmas thing, we'll let you have Christmas back if you give it back to the Pagans along with Easter.

I don't have a problem with giving the current version of 'christmas' back to the pagans nor with 'easter' back to Eoster (or something like that. sorry).
Both 'holydays' have been so commercialized as to mean nothing.
In my church, we currently already do not celebrate halloween (or samhain) and we do offer alternative activities for the children.

Christmas isn't a pagan holiday, the party of the wintry climate solstice is a pagan holiday and while the Romans offered christianity to something of the worldwide, it became into much less demanding to get human beings to rejoice the beginning of their saviour on a date that became into already being celebrated by making use of thousands and thousands of persons. no count in case you rejoice the wintry climate solstice, the beginning of Jesus or no longer something in any respect is as much as you yet incredibly, that is in undemanding terms a super time to get which incorporate relatives and there is no longer something incorrect with that. As for it being materialistic? of direction it is! we live in an extremely aggressive, textile worldwide i'm afraid.

I hate to do this to you, but there are two flaws in your logic.
True atheist aren't ' against ' God. They just rank Him up there with the " Tooth Fairy ". I nice story to entertain children with, but nothing more. There's another mind-set of God Haters that call themselves Atheists. Sounds better than God-hater, I guess.
Second. Winter festival has been around a long time. It wasn't always called " Christmas ". I forget what it was originally called, " winter solstice " or something like that, ( wiccans, little help please) but it was basically the same.
Now, with that out of the way, on to your question.
Who doesn't like getting free stuff?
best wishes.

why do christians put up christmas trees and tell tales of santa claus and give presents. which are OBVIOUS pagan type traditions?
yeah. and guess what December 21, or the winter solstice, or the shortest day of the year is a very common most important day of the year for many primitive religions. how convienient of christ to be born on that day?
Think about that when you go to church on the Sun's day, unless you go on Saturn's Day in the evening.
SO good job on sounding like a ignorant hypocrite. unless it says somewhere in the bible to put up Evergreens and give presents and sing carole's on Christ's B-Day.

I'm not dead set against imaginary creatures. Why do you celebrate Thanksgiving? You're not a pilgrim, and I sure hope you don't support the mass slaughter of Native Americans.
Is it that horrible to celebrate life, plentiful food, a heater, friends, and family in the bleakest of seasons?

I am not an atheist.
I celebrate the birthday of Mithra, Horus, and Krishna. All deities born of a virgin on December 25th.
