We hear on here all the time from most atheists that they are logical, rational, free thinking and open minded.

I say: 1 + 1 = 1

So atheists I ask you, am I illogical? Please tell me what you think, and give details on why you think I am illogical or not.

Well, I will stick by my claim and say that I am not wrong. I will also make these claims.

1+1 = 1
1+0 = 1
0+0 = 0

-1 + -1 = 0
-1 + -0 = 1
-0 + -0 = 1
-0 + 0 = 1

It is nice to see some of you open your minds a little and consider alternative possibilities.

If you don't accept that even something you think is fact my have an alternate meaning or outcome...you really do need to open your mine a little more.

novangelis: Yes, how else am I suppose to represent it. I could of said not(0), but that also looks ridiculous. I haven't found the key for the logical inverse symbol on my keyboard yet, sorry. It was the easiest way I could think of to show an inverse.

jonjon: It makes not statement about atheisim itself. It does make a statement about those atheist that claim to have an open mind, but won't consider alternate possibilities of those things that they "think" are "fact".

the most honest answer to this question to a religious person is no, you are not. Suprised? The logic in both the atheist position and the religious position are bound to a single assumption. That assumption is "there is a Creator that can do anything He pleases-make a 6000 year old earth look as if is 4,000,000,000 years old" or "there is no Creator". The logic that stems from that basis axiom for an atheist is self consistent reasoning, the logic that stems from the religious postion is also self consistant from that intial axiom. The basis axiom is not provable for either postion --it is a faith based position. All of the arguements in here basically-all stem from those positions. The real question is not in logic but in the validity of the basis axiom--all else flows from that point.

To me, claiming complexity must derive from a prior greater complexity is indeed illogical.

If by 1 + 1 = 1 you mean what most of us mean by the symbols: ( "1", "+", "=" , "-" ) then that is illogical, but I assume you are going to say you are using a different interpretation of those symbols to mean something slightly less common. Many Christians on here like to play word games for some reason.

Anyway you just defined "+" as OR and "-" as NOT, "1" as True and "0" as False. Doing exactly as I said you were doing.

You have reached a conclusion that disagrees with the rules of mathematics. You are not following the rules of mathematics. If you are trying to use math as an allegory to some other idea, you have not done a very good job because you haven't expressed the OTHER idea. If you are trying to convey anything to us, I don't know what it is, and to post a question that isn't a question and doesn't convey any message is a waste of time, resources, and electricity, which is most definitely illogical.

Here we go again. You with your logic puzzles, and yet never refuting the logic that atheists use to show there is no evidence that god exists.

OK, I'm sure there's going to be some clever trick here, but since generally speaking 1+1=2, not 1, I'll say, at the very least, you're not too bright if you think otherwise. I'm not sure if it s a question of logic or intelligence, however.

What the heck is negative zero? How is that even a concept?

you say you're logical and then you make a statement like
1+1=1. if you can't see why that is not logical, i can't explain it to you.

edit: having an open mind and being willing to accept stupidity are two completely different things. i have an open mind that you are possibly a moron, which would explain where you got the idea that 1+1=1. i also have to consider that you're hopefully smarter than that and are only saying that to make some point as to atheist not being open minded because they won't consider some idea you have in the back of your head as an alternate possibility. we're not mind readers, we're atheists. if you want to get into all the different ways 1+1=1, i could think of 100 different explanations. however, when you leave in simple mathematic format, you're leaving the question only open to simple mathematics. perhaps explaining your question next time will clarify for some of us the possibility that you're not a moron.

Guess what? It is possible to use reason in some things and to hold illogical beliefs in other areas. Wow, isn't that amazing?

You may very well be logical in some areas, at some times, under some circumstances -- I really have no idea.

But if you're going to insist that grass grew before the sun existed, and that a donkey spoke in human language, and that the earth stopped spinning for several hours one day, then I'm going to think that in those particular areas you have illogical beliefs.

1 + 1 = 1 depends on what the "1" stands for. That is a psychology question that I had in College. Example...If you have 1 drop of water and add 1 drop of water, you still have only 1 drop of water. Granted it is a bigger drop but it is still only 1 drop.

And please don't try to fool the masses with Logic Truth tables. In the infamous words of Firefly...This isn't electronics this is R&S.

You were extremely logical until you got into the negative nombers. You had Boolean algerbra down. If the negatives are suppused to be overlines (Boolean inverse), you stayed logical.

Think outside the box:

1+1 = 1 is a math problem. This is not a logic problem. The equation you've given is simply wrong by evidence.

Consider what your puzzles say about your relationships to the other users of this site. You deceptively state them as if they are in a standard format, but you smugly know a secret. If you shared your secret, then we would all be on a level playing field, but it appears that such equanimity runs counter to your gaming with us. This, I conjecture, comes from some trouble with living with fairness, perhaps because you expect to be treated unfairly by us.

In the atheistic/theistic dialogues, we all share the same information and access to the processes of logic. In your puzzles, you manipulate us. There's no reason to dupe us. Simply ignore those who don't play straight with you. They're not worth damaging the relationships you have with the rest of us.
