we took in 2 kittens and had them for a little over a month before realizing they had fleas. we've since made them outside cats again so they are never inside but we still have a ton of fleas. can they lay eggs in the carpet or with the pets outside will the spraying and vacuuming eventually get rid of all of them?

Bomb your house with flea bombs. They make a powder to put on your carpet, but it does not work nearly as well as the bomb. My neighbor's dog was in my house one time and brought fleas in. We were infested within 2 weeks and we had no pets. The only thing that worked was the bombs.

You need to treat the actual cats or you'll never be free from fleas! If the cats are under 8 weeks old (I hope not as they're going outside) they need Frontline spray, which is the only treatment safe and effective enough for kittens this young.

If they're over 8 weeks, pick up any decent treatment from the vets - Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate. Do not use anything from a pet store.

I take it the kittens are allowed inside when they want to come in?! As for your house, you need to spray it with a proper spray from a vets.

Spraying and vacuuming flea spray should do the trick. Flea bombs would work too. Of course if you wanted the kittens inside, a bath with flea shampoo to de-flea them and a flea bomb for an afternoon to de-flea your carpets the same day would be ideal. Then the kittens can be indoor cats and be safe from further flea infestations.

put frontline on the kittens and let them back in. You buy it from the vet. It kills the fleas on the kittens and the ones in the carpet jump on the kittens and die also. Yes the fleas laid eggs in the carpet but the vaccumming and the frontline will get rid of them.
