I thought I had everything figured out, but after talking to a friend whose husband is active duty, I'm confused again. DH is national guard RESERVES. He's deploying next month. We did all our paperwork for BAH, COLA etc, thats good to go. Does the rate go by where we live or where he'll be doing his pre-deployment training? The unit he's going with is from PA. We live in northern VA, and he'll be doing his pre-deployment training at Ft. Bragg for about 90 days (we think). The ANG knows we live in NoVA and it's on all our records. Do we get the rate for NoVA when he reports for deployment or do we get the rates for Bragg while he trains there and THEN the rates for NoVA once he leaves the country? I've been told it works differently for reserve s active. Which rate do we get? DH was told BAH goes directly to me. My friend said it's paid to our apartment complex and then I get leftovers. Is there more paperwork for that? Where do I find all the benefits in the LES statement?

Now that's a lot of questions.

the military does not pay any civilian housing complex directly.

Nothing comes straight to you it is all included in the paycheck. Unless it is set up to go into a separate account.

Your BAH ect, should be based upon where you live, not where anyone is temporarily assigned. Unless you move with DH?

To figure out the LES try the below site.

BAH is based on where you live; not where he is stationed or doing duty at; so you will be paid BAH for the Northern Virginia area you live in. BAH is paid as part of the paycheck so will go where ever the pay check goes-cash/check to him or direct deposit to the bank which ever he has set up. You could do an allotment, possibly not sure about that rules change, to your landlord to pay the rent but I would not recommend that since it might take time to stop if you moved. Really just get it with your pay and pay the bills. The National Guard or Air National Guard is just that; the Army Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Air Force Reserves and Navy Reserve are the Reserves they are not the same thing-no such thing Air National Guard Reserves; they are part the national military reserve forces but not Reserves meaning the military organizations.

BAH is based on the zip code of his home of record.
It is in his paycheck, not a separate check to someone else. You won't see it on the LES until he starts receiving it, but the break out will be in the same window as gross pay.

IF he were Active Duty and not Guard he could set up a allotment if that was what you wanted, but that's not an option in the reserve pay system.
