No,
The Air Force grants leave after your Tech School,
You will get two weeks leave between Tech School and your first duty station.
I think the Marines are the only service that grants leave, right after thier Boot.
And the Army is the only service that grants leave during basic training over X-mas.

I spent Christmas at Basic...you will not get leave during basic unless there bona fide emergency (i.e. death of a family member) that is verified by the Red Cross. You will go straight to tech school....normally leave is not allowed during tech school, except during Christmas, which you just missed by being in Basic. You will be given the opportunity to take leave when you depart tech school for your first duty station....my dad is retired Air Force and he told me I was not "going into the hole" (taking more leave than I had earned). I earned six days during basic and tech school and that is exactly what I took.
I was very glad the next Christmas because I had saved up 21 days and I was able to go home for the holidays, with a little left over. Just a thought.

Wow, wow, wow... they will NOT kill you for deserting. Who ever said that has watch WAY too many old war flicks.... They would prosecute you with UCMJ when you get caught... and you will get caught. If you get pulled over by a police officer, when they run your license, it will show you are AWOL, and you will be arrested on the stop and turned over to the nearest base.
Anyway...
Getting leave usually happens after you completely your Job Training (Each branch calls it a little different. In the Army, it's called AIT.) Why you finish your job training you're given an option, either to go to your regular duty station, or take two weeks to go see your friends and family.
However, there are a few catches to this. If you are a split option recruit (as in you are doing Basic at the end of your Junior year in High School, then do your Job Training after your Senior year) you do not get this option because they are sending you home anyway. Also, if you happen to have gotten your training at the right time, when Christmas comes along and you're still in training, you get two weeks (approximately) off to go see your family. This is called "Exodus", when bases usally shut down for the holiday season.
Sounds to me like you'll get Exodus off.

You will NOT get leave while you are at basic. But as mentioned above, once you are done with Tech school will be the first opportunity to take leave. By that time you should have some money saved up to go home. Make sure you have your bank account set up before you leave and get an ATM/debit card and checks. I'd recommend doing cash back transactions instead of ATM withdrawals as it may cost you $2 or more in fees.

You won't be able to take leave until your first duty station. But depending on where your tech school is located and the rules they employ you may be able to go home for a weekend. My tech school was in Pensacola, FL, and I went home to MS on three different weekends. It was all legit I just had to take someone (a wingman) with me. We get paid on the 15th and at the end of the month, so you will receive your first pay 31 Dec or 1 Jan if not by then at least by the end of Jan. Good luck with everything.

First pay check will be 12/30/07 because the first is a holiday.
No, you will not have leave during basic. That would only happen if there was a death in your immediate family. (don't think you would want to go on that leave)
First opportunity for leave will be at the completion of tech school.

If you are done with your job training then yes you might be able to get leave. If you only have finished basic and are going to a new area for job training then no. You should get your 1st paycheck A month or two of getting to basic. It is direct deposit only no check in hand.

generally speaking, you will not have any time off between completion of Basic training and reporting to you school. you may NOT take any leave during school, save for the 2 week period between Christmas and New years( all of which is not only chargeable leave it is out of pocket) Pay is direct deposit and takes anywhere from 6-8 weeks after reporting before you see any money.
the ARMY only will send recruits home for Christmas, no other branch allows this. you will be in Basic Training on December 25th. you will have Sunday routine at most.

Leaving without permission is called Desertion and they can kill you for it in wartime.....However you will be SOOO busy in Basic training that you won't have time to think about leave. And you better pay attention in Basic training because you will learn to do things that will keep you alive. The military is no game right now, and they are playing for keeps.
Leave will probably come after skill training. It is weird you are leaving for basic on the 18th of December as most training activities close over the Xmas holidays.
