Let's say one is setting up a range... There's a good berm at one end of the property (actually a hill) it is 700' long this property. It would be a squeeze, but one could set up 200 yds lanes. It is also 400' wide, about 6.5 acres. Would this only be suitable for skeet and/or small bore?

I don't think there is any doubt that the area is big enough for Skeet,Trap and Small Bore. If you wanted to do this the real issue would be the "zoning" in the area you want to build the range in and how the neighboring property owners would feel about a gun range in their neighborhood. It's been my experience that people view firearms ranges like they do prisons. Everybody wants them but nobody wants one in their backyard or close enough to hear the gunfire noise..Sounds like a great project and I wish you good luck with it.....

I think it really depends on what is surrounding/neigboring the property. Even on most ranges, you'll be hard pressed to find one over 200 yards, at least in the eastern untied states. (I'm sure you guys and gals out west in the open country have some seriously long ranges).

700 feet and a hill for a backstop should give you plenty of space to shoot nearly anything. I would still probably mound dirt at the base of the hill to give a well defined back-stop area.

Skeet sure shotgun shot looses velociety rather quickly. 200 yards is good for just about anything out there minus the heavy hitters like the 50BMG and other long range calibers like that.

I wish I had a 200 yard range to shoot on. mine is only 100 yards. but it works.
