I am making a trip to Paris in the New Year. Where can I go to hear French music of the 1940's 1950's - Piaf, Trenet, Josephine Baker etc? Are there any concerts in January recreating the period? Also I believe that there are some cafes that have evenings of such music, and the clients sing along. Thanks.

My favorite hangout in Paris, Aux Trois Mailletz, 56 rue Galand in the 5th arr., is what you're looking for. Most of the French "standards" get played (and the audience does tend to sing along). The best time to hear these tunes is later in the evening, after 11 PM and thru closing at 6 AM.

Bonjour
I came across this the other day, and when I saw your question here, I thought you might like to know about this ~ it might do in the meantime before you actually get to Paris !
