I am 23 years old with three and a half years of college under my belt, I am not exactly sure what I would like to do as a career. I have recently been looking into the Navy, I was wondering how is life being in the Navy? Is it rewarding and what exactly are the direct duties of a PA officer and how long before I could become one?

THANKS!

If you like to travel a lot, like the ocean, and can bear the military life (UCMJ, inspections, haircuts, shoe shining) then yes, the Navy can be rewarding. As far as becoming an officer, you need a 3.0 GPA (maybe a little flexible) and then to get accepted to Officer Candidate School. For more info, see:

I'm sure you've heard it before but the Navy REALLY is what you make of it. There are many advantages and several disadvantages as with any other thing or branch of service. What type of person are you? Can you follow orders? Do you want to travel? Do you mind being in close proximity to other people ALOT? Are you married or do you have kids? Can you deal with intense pressure at times? The Navy and the military in general has its own set of rules and standards of conduct that some people just aren't cut out for. Can you or will you adapt to a more disciplined and structured lifestyle? Weight your options and do some research. I joined in August and am currently in "A" school for Mass Communications/ Public Affairs. I haven't been out to the fleet yet but I can tell you that the PA/MC field is tough but highly rewarding, everyone I've talked to, loves it. If you can adapt be open minded and are guaranteed a job as a PA I would say do it.

well if you have a 4 year degree you can go to OCS and you will be an officer!! The Navy is a rewarding career esp for an officer as if you enlist you start off really low. and work your way through enlisted ranks I live on a Marine Base and know alot of Devil Dolphins you move through the ranks regardless but you will start out much higher if you go through ocs and start as a officer talk to your recruiter

Trying looking at the Nuclear Officer option. Most of the officers I know are really good friends and I still talk to them after they left the submarine. It is a real challenge and it will give you a run for your money. How would you like to command a billion dollar submarine? It is an amazing feat and only so few can say that they did. Talk to a recruiter to get more info.

PAO is EXTREMELY hard to get into.. less than 50 are chosen each year.

your chances are MUCH higher to go SWO, as long as your degree, GPA and other factors mesh with what the Navy is looking for.
