I have a co-worker (we sit in open cubicles) who sits about 12 feet away. He farts all day long, sometimes 2-3 times in a row. Once I even heard him grunting.. How do I handle it? He's in his 20's so he's not old where you would think ok, maybe it's uncontrollable. Please don't say "just ask him to stop". Seriously put yourself in this extremely uncomfortable position. What would you do?? Oh and I have told my boss but he seems too embarrassed to bring it up. Should I even be asking that he stop since it's a bodily function? I mean, can employers even ask someone to stop something like that??

Open a window, or let it be known that his wind is disturbing you. Seriously, wasn't he brought up in a civilised family? is that how his parents brought him up? doesn't he know it's rude.
I think you should just tell him that you can't stand the smell and he should stop. Better to tell him in his face and be upfront about it no matter how embarrasing it may be. Sometimes, the truth hurts but it still has to be done.

Initially, I thought maybe the Lysol idea would be kind of funny, and it might work, without having to talk to him to his face. But then I realized that he may well have a health problem that causes him to have a lot of gas, and then it wouldn't be so funny because maybe he CAN'T help it, you know?
You might leave some gas-ex on his desk. Or aks if he could "do that in the bathroom" when he starts in. Ick. Lame that your boss isn't sucking it up and taking care of the situation. He probably can't tell him to stop having bodily functions, but there are more appropriate ways to handle it (the gas) than blowing up your work area.

in case you desire to justify this then you could desire to positioned the non-public stuff aside and concentration on the expert motives to have him faraway from the agency. His behaviour seems unconstructive and immature and from what you have defined this is obtrusive he's a hinderance on your businesses aims. For those motives on my own, the administration could desire to have already got assessed whether he's properly worth protecting. there is an outstanding probability that they've already got observed all this and this email you're preserving ought to be the straw that breaks the camels decrease back (with the objective to speak). in case you do pick to proportion the e mail with the administration, be careful the variety you bypass approximately doing so. If it appears that evidently like your attempting to get him fired for inner maximum motives then you will probable finally end up in much greater hardship than he will. In precis, this is probable superb to bypass the e mail onto administration, yet accomplish that in a manner that may not reason you any backlash.

He might have a gastric problem that causes excessive farting. His tinkiness might be a cause of stress. His butt trumpeting might be from a result of medication or if he eats healthy or dairy.

Or he might be doing it deliberately.

Don't want to shame him though. What might help is if you fart in your corner. Yes, I am serious. Fart in your corner or walk by and fart. Then you can casually say, Man, I feel real gassy today or man I farted, know the feeling? Then he might open up and say Yeh, I been gassy too.

Basically being indirect vs direct and saying, Dude you farts stink!

it is possible for him to have a health problem.
i have a friend that has had problems with his bowel since he was very young and since he was about 20 he has had a colostomy bag,and he cant control when stuff goes into it and it sound like hes farting. so thats worth taking in to consideration and that might be why your boss doesnt want to say anything about it..
if he is just doing it to be gross buy him a can of airfreshner and ask him to use it

...he's doing nothing wrong, he might have bad gas, and can't control it; but he needs to go out of the office and go to the mens room.

I once had a boss who had bad breath, and I put a can of Listerine on his desk before he came in one day; and 2 weeks later there was a layoff and I was escorted out the door. I often thought it was because of the Listerine bottle.

Put a can of air fresher on his desk in the AM before he comes in; that might send him a message, because its possible he doesn't know he's doing anything wrong, he may have been raised like that.

You might say something like, "Hey I just wanted to let you know that when you make noises over in your cubicle I can hear them." You don't have to specifically mention flatulence, but he might think that he's doing it in private.

Get a can of lysol, and every time you hear him fart, spray some in his direction. Maybe it will embarrass him into trying to be more silent.

Clearly he's pushing them out. If you can, even by changing your diet, out stink him for even a while, do so silently until he realizes the depth of his error!

If you can't, buy a can of fart spray and sneak it into use......
