After a friend borrowed my 1997 Jimmy, drained the battery, hooked it to a charger, and then claimed it wouldn't start, I had it towed home. I've replaced the battery, but it won't fire. Any idea what they fried for me?

Everything is turning over with the new battery. However, no spark. I'm going to start to back track from there, but am limited to how far I can go myself. Looking for some ideas before I pay another tow bill to a mechanic.

If it cranks but won't fire, you have to check for spark outputs at the plug end of the wires and then check for fuel pressure. If you have both of those, you will have to check the PCM for codes and good data. If you are missing any of these, you will have to diagnose that side of the circuits to find what has happened. If it doesn't crank, check power and grounds to the starter motor and the crank circuit at the starter, if all that's good, the starter has had it.

How do you know it won't 'fire'? as in - are you saying it has no spark at the spark plugs - or - are you saying simply that it still will not start and no indication (firing Sound) that it is doing anything other than turning over by the batteries' efforts??
