If you have a great job, NYC is awesome!
I'm personally partial to Amsterdam, Tijuana, and Thailand. I miss my NYC days but I'm getting a bit tired of the Northeast's cold and rain. NY is a little tough, also, if you're elderly or disabled, or if you're but-*** poor. Otherwise yeah, it rules.
But when I retire (hopefully within the next 3 or 4 decades) I think I'd want to be in Mexico, South America, or Southeast Asia.

Yes, I live on the far Northern coast of California near Oregon. I am 5 minutes from the river one direction and 5 minutes from the ocean in the other. I am very happy here
