I've been feeding my dog Innova EVO small bites and started to include a poached egg mixed in with the kibble and today my dog has diarrhea. What is the best canned food to feed him while he has diarrhea; is there anything better on the market than Hill's Prescription Diet i/d?

I forgot to mention that I've been feeding Innova for two months now without problems and started feeding an egg just 2 days ago twice a day. I also had fecal test done and it came back negative so it must be the diet change.

No, that has been the best I have tried.

Fast him for 24 hours (if over 6 months, 12 hrs if younger). Then, start him on a rice and boiled chicken diet. Once the diarrhea subsides, start slowly introducing the kibble back into his diet.

When my baby had diarrhea this is what I did.

Fasted her 1 meal.
Took her to the vet (got Gastriplex and a mild antibiotic)
Fed her Castor and Pollux Organix Turkey Rice veggie cans (about 1/3 a can at first mixed with warm water and her gastriplex capsule sprinkled and mixed into the food).

She didn't have a bm for about 24 hours after I started this, that bm was normal so I started mixing in her regular dry food as I finished up the canned food.

The vet told me to do a bland chicken and rice diet, but I didn't have time to go to the store and get the stuff and make it, so I picked up the canned food at work. I checked cans and made sure I got something that looked pretty plain.

I'd eliminate the egg from her current diet or when I add it, cut the kibble some and mix in some rice or potato.

If you want to clear up the diarrhea you can feed him some brown rice. It will help constipate him and help him to get over whatever it was that bothered his stomach. If you are going to make changes to a dogs diet it needs to be slow. Dogs that eat dry food like kibble don't have the pancreatic enzymes to break down raw food such as an egg. This is probably what messed him up. I am a Raw food feeder, all my dogs are Raw fed. Evo is a good kibble to feed if you are going to stick with that, just keep in mind that any changes to this type of diet must be incremental. With a Raw diet the dogs already have strong enzymes built up so they can adjust to changes much better. Raw Bones are another way to harden stool, just keep in mind that if it's too hard or comes out chalky then you should give the dogs some banana to soften it up. Just another reason why wild animals are stronger then domesticated ones. I try to keep mine as feral as possible. If you need any more help let me know I can send you my yahoo IM or my email.

Although a lot of the people above me said good things you can feed your dog, I prefer to feed mine only (good quality) dry dog food with a little meat (usually chicken or steak) a few days a week.

You didn't say how long you have been feeding him the Innova, but if you switched his food recently that might be the cause of his diarrhea, not the egg. Most dogs will get diarrhea if their main food is switched suddenly. If that is the case, just continue to give him the Innova and he will adjust within a week and be fine.

No canned food, unless you really want him to have the runs! Also canned food rots the dogs teeth over time dogs need to chew to help strengthen his teeth.
STOP THE EGG! This is only for severly dry skin, a tea spoon of olive oil over the food has the same effects as I said only when needed othrwise you are just upsetting his stomach.
Take the food away, rice and boiled white chicken meat (No bones, no skin no dark meat as this has fats,) nothing added, should be tried after 12 hours for pups 24 hours for older dogs to help with the loose bowels.
After 12 to 24 hours of no diarrhea give dry food only.

Canned food is very high in moisture which isnt what you want for that problem. Try some kibble for a few days, or do a rice and chicken meal.

Hills makes terrible food; look into Canidae-they make kibble and canned.

Addition to the person above me: Be VERY careful with baby food. Many baby foods contain onion powder. Onions are a natural blood thinner and are very dangerous to dogs.

Whenever any of my dogs had diarrhea, I would feed them basically the B.R.A.T. diet (without the toast)

Bananas

White rice with low sodium chicken broth

Apples (left on the counter for a short time until they get brown)

It's always helped.

Cut out the egg unless he has skin problems. Give him a couple of tablespoons of Keopectate when he gets the runs. Otherwise keep him on his normal food. You can also give him some rice water. Just rinse a cup of long cooking rice with enough water to cover it. Then pour off liquid into a bowl. My dogs never get dehydrated when I do this.

Boiled hamburg and rice is very close to i/d.

The dog does not need an egg daily. It causes a lot of dogs diarrhea.
