Just tell if it hurts. I can deal with the sounds, the drilling, the smoke coming out of my mouth, but I just need to know if it still hurts. I take to novacaine really well and have had root canals done. I just want the be prepared for the pain.

Well folks, here I go. The reason I choose not to be put under is simply because I cannot afford it. Thanks for the insight and wish me luck. Oh yeah, and I am not a girl. I'm a man.

I got two of the teeth pulled on friday. The doctor wouldn't go on with the other two. He said he felt like my body wasn't reacting well to the stress of the moment. I wanted to keep goingbut he would let it happen. I got rescheduled to have the other teeth extracted Dec. 28th.

If your dentist strongly suggests you be put out for the extraction - ask why... If the procedure is complicated due to root problems, infection, etc., local anesthetic my not cover you for pain. If, however, you're having your wisdom teeth pulled for preventive measures and they are relatively non-problematic - go local. Reason 1 is that when you are fully sedated - the post-operative pain from the actual extraction is not nearly as bad as the pain from the manipulation of your jaw and subsequent muscle strain and even tear. When you are anesthetized, your dentist will open your mouth well beyond a pain tolerant angle as there is minimized resistance. This can and often does cause post-operative pain to the jaw, face and even TMJ problems in the future. Go local if possible.

I had 1 wisdom tooth removed earlier this year. I had no pain at all but he had to pull on it for what seemed like forever. They usually don't come out so easily and it may take a while to remove a wisdom tooth. I did get several shots of Novocaine before and during the extraction. He was pushing on me to stay in the chair while removing the wisdom tooth. I do have long roots so I'm sure that made a difference. If you're having all 4 of your wisdom teeth removed I think I would want to be put under. With 2 teeth removed I probably could handle that without being put under. Good Luck and remember to take some pain meds before all the Novocaine wears off.

I had mine cut out, and I wasn't out when mine were done. I used Nitrous Oxide, and then they used topical anesthetic, then Novocaine. After all the numbing, I didn't feel a THING!

I didn't know that they were doing it until I felt a trickle of blood and my tooth being passed.

Your going to feel A LOT of tugging and pulling. That was the only feeling that I had a trace amount of, but it doesn't hurt, it just feels like a bit of pressure.

The pain afterwards isn't bad either. Be prepared to swell. It hurts if you try to eat too soon, so fill up before you go ;)

Your going to get meds, including a pain reliever, and penicillin.

Your not going to be able to talk for a hour or so after until you regain feeling in your lips and tongue.

The only thing that felt awkward for me, was the stitches being pulled out a week later.

The only reason I would see that they'd put you under is if there were complications due to infection, placement or etc.

Best of luck, don't worry about it too much. You'll be fine.

I had all four wisdom teeth taken out when I was 16 and I was wide awake for the whole procedure. Mind you, they gave me a big shot of valium to relax me and a ton of novacaine.

There was no pain during the procedure, just the sounds of the drills, the teeth being cracked from the jawbone and a whole lot of tugging and pulling.

The pain did not start until the novacaine wore off about 4 hours later. Thank God for Percodan!

I did my wisdom teeth this way. I didn't feel a thing! It is wierd being awake hearing all the sounds, but the pain is not until afterwards. You will feel pain when you get hom for about a day, but then you are fine! It is really quick too. I was in and out in 30 minutes. Good luck!

I wasn't put under. There was pain!!! But to be honest it was mostly the pressure being put on my teeth because my wisdom teeth were huge and he couldn't just pull them out. We're talking hammer, chisel, and pounding to crack my teeth into pieces!!!!! Most traumatizing dentist visit of my life. I had a headache for a week not to mention 2 weeks of healing time and puffy cheeks.

When mine were pulled they just gave me a local and removed them. It did not hurt at all. I just heard a clinking noise as they were removing the teeth. I had some facial swelling along my jaw bone after wards, with minimal pain- the oral pain meds the oral surgeon gave me managed the pain well. I also had a cotton pack in my mouth that packed the area where the teeth were removed. It was more scary having people tell me their horror stories of when they got their teeth removed, it was a piece of cake for me.

I had all 4 of mine removed a few months ago. The oral surgeon started to give me IV Valium but I HATED the feeling it gave me, so I told him to stop using it. I had just the Novocaine for the procedure and I did just fine--no pain at all.

The oral surgeon took $200 off my bill for not using the sedative.

The worst part of the whole thing was when he pulled the packing out a week later--that was a very odd, unpleasant sensation.

I had all my wisdom teeth pulled without being put to sleep. I hurt like hell but you of course will expect that.
