OK, so I used to have another user name, I've been around here for a year...I have noticed a "tendency" for some honest and truthful answers to get "thumbs down". Like someone pointing out that an animal is in fact an animal and not a furry 4 legged human. Is it because the poeple here believe their dogs deserve to be treated as an equal or are they just upset someone is reminding them of the facts that don't support their views? I think from my experience here that 80% of users in this section are a little "off" when it comes to understanding animal behavior, needs, instinct and abilities. The "top contributors" and users like "Rachael, Pit Police Captain" seem to be truly intelligent responsible pet owners, so I'm not on a "bashing" mission here.
Please tell me if you feel when the majority of users in this section are rating and reporting based on personal feelings, fact or simply out to remove someone they disagree with.

I think most of reporting goes on because the people who are doing it are just dog ignorant. Yes they do by their own personal feeling for their own dog. doesn't make it correct by a long shot. But if they want to be upset because their Youkiepoo won't wear a bow then fine let them be, but do they have any real dog knowledge? I seriously doubt it!
Now lets see how many thumbs down fairies come along! :)

I'm a relative newbie here on Answers, but I'll give it a go...
There are two extremes to anthropomorphizing (assigning human traits to an animal.); those who believe it is just a piece of living organic tissue and those who think of it as a "furry person". Fortunately, most of us fall somewhere in the middle.
Dog training (whether formal or just teaching day-to-day "family skills") is both an art and a science; many times we can not offer a single, definitive answer to a question. When that is the case, I would hope that everyone on the list would be tolerant of others' opinions (unless it presented a danger to the human or dog).
On a personal note- Sometimes we become disappointed because our dog is not "Superdog" and perfectly executes all that we demand. My current partner could not do the AKC tracking course, but turned out to be a very good SAR dog.
As far as other people being 'mean' on the lists... That's just life, not everyone out there is amicable. Guess that's why I like dogs!

Of course it's a users personal feelings, isn't everything in life personal feelings or opinions? What is the truth for one person and works might not be my perception of truth. Advice after all is just that and not necessarily something that's written in stone. I give a thumbs down for info. that I believe is flat out wrong. I've had a lot of pups/dogs and what works for one doesn't always work for another, don't come on YA for info. with issues that I'm really concerned about, I don't know the people answering or have knowledge of their credentials. But, it's always good to get a different perspective, maybe I've overlooked something. What is maddening is the arrogance of someone who replies that their answer is the "truth" - no it isn't if it isn't what I think is the truth and wrong. So, no I don't think the majority of users are trying to remove someone they disagree with.

Most of my answers are getting a thumbs down in the dog section just because I don't tend to send out the answers that everyone want to hear, instead I give answers based on the knowledge I've gained from famous dog behaviorist, dog trainers, and dog breeders that I have come to know . People give me thumbs down because its not a popular belief among all the fur-baby owners. They are probably going to even give me a thumbs down on this answer too. That's fine because I don't care if I become popular, I would rather just know that I have given an answer that may help others with an open mind.

I dont know how my answers are thought of really. I've answered a couple of dog questions in the past but I'm not an expert, just a dog owner and if I see someone with a problem I've come across then I'll put my 2 cents worth in. If I get a thumbs down for an answer it's not that big a deal to me, it just means someone else disagrees with me not necessarily the question asker.
I dont tally what the majority of users in this section are doing so can't really comment on that part of your question.

I have been here only a short time, so I don't know one user from the other. I never read others' answers before I hit 'Answer this question', therefore, I am not influenced about what my answer will be. I usually then will scroll down, giving a thumbs up, thumbs down or neither, depending upon the answer and if I agree, disagree or am indifferent.
That's my final answer ;) Hope I never have to change usernames. I just found this Yahoo Ansers and it's quite unique and interesting...my only wish is that people would LOOK at the suggestions as they type out their question to ask...it gives you answers right there a lot of the time!!!
Also-you shouldn't have named names-JMHO ;)

I'm with JR on this one. I'd say AT LEAST 95% of the people here have absolutely NO idea what they're talking about, or are so biased that they don't WANT to know what they're talking about.
People are simply stuck in their ways. They come to YA to get reassurance that their wrong choice is right. I've seen people ask questions like, "Are shock collars really bad?" and when almost all of the people who answer tell them that they are NOT really all that effective and is almost cruel unless used properly, they "best answer" the ONE person who states that shock collars are the best thing EVER invented and everyone should use them.
It's annoying, honestly. Undeserved low ratings and people who don't pick a best answer are one of the most annoying parts of YA.

Sometimes I get really annoyed by what is going on here. It's like someone is following me around just to give me thumbs down... cause they didn't like something I wrote a couple of days ago. Even today, I got an angry email from someone reminding me animals do not replace humans.....how gone in the head and judgmental do you have to be to take time out of your day to email rude comments to someone you know nothing about.
I do not thumbs down if I don't agree with the answer and it's an articulate answer, I will thumbs down people who are rude, call names and express prejudice.

I think it's more than 80%. I received an email from one of the posts I answered regarding breeding her dogs and sell the puppies to recoup the costs of both breedings because she gave them away on the first litter. I said she's a byb for selling the puppies to recoup the costs and she claimed that money was not an issue for her. People like that still live in their little fantasy world of make believe.
Of course, it's always easier to blame on other people instead of admitting that what you are doing is not right. I think that's who these people are. They think they can do whatever to their pets and people who answer their posts. Or maybe they're simply ignorant pet owners?

I dont feel this forum has any cliques whatsoever thats part of why I like it
I see thumbs down that i dont understand Most ppl here give a sincere answer or they wouldn't be wasting their time\
Its all how the person rating them interprets the answer
I feel its acceptable to thumbs down an answer if you think it's wrong or if you think its a bad idea, but not necessarily wrong. That would include thumbs downing an answer that says "I treat my dog as a human."
