Donate it. That way it remains a gift. And is not disrespected as trash, or cheapened by selling.

Giving gifts is a means of remembrance. This is the real conundrum. We don't want to offend, yet we need to keep a tidy space for health.
I keep photos of my friends, and I keep in touch, as they do. I would hate to think I have inconvenienced them by giving them a bobble they are afraid to throw away. and I am sure they feel the same.
so I collect up the bobbles that have no use to me and give them to the salvation army, goodwill and deseret industries. or to someone who really likes the item. This way they feel free to do the same, and our connections are not offended if an item is not treasured. The connection treasures them.

if they ask just say you have no use for it!
or send a card thanking them again!
saying thank you so much for the Monkey lamp i used it for 2 months and i'm not collecting xyz I loved the monkey and i wanted to say thanks again!
it has been with me for a while!
most do not get offended after you don't use it!
just don't give it back!
or sayyou found someone who needed it and you gave it away!
or don't mention it at all unless they bring it up!
then just tell them I'm decluttering my life and trying to be simple there for it had to go but i did take a photo!
something like that should work!
i also offer it to them
hey you gave this to me i'm going to toss it now do you want it!

I can identify with that. I hate clutter, and I love to throw things away.

Donate it to charity like Goodwill and never tell them. If they ask, say you accidentally broke it.
Hopefully they'll notice and stop buying you clutter.

You are free to do what you like with gifts people give you. You might consider keeping a few things to put out when people come to visit.

yes you can as long as you will no longer needed them, but be descreet when doing it or if someone else needs it, you can also give it away. If they did asked where are the stuff they gave you, just tell them you set it aside in the storage room and plans to use them in the future.

It works better if you do it because you found someone who really desperately needs that item so you donated it in the interest of magnanimity.
