I don't mind that Ella record when I have to listen to it in Starbucks. That's just a testament to her genius, that she can even make "Santa Baby" listenable. Basically, though, I freaking despise Christmas carols, so the atheism thing works out.

The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole

"Father Christmas" by The Kinks, where the Salvation Army Santa gets beaten up by poor kids demanding "give my daddy a job 'cause he needs one", among other social issues. Number ONE all time for this atheist/humanist.

"I Am Santa Claus" by Bob Rivers, hilarious parody of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man".

"Christmas Eve Sarajevo" by Trans Siberian Orchestra- they're NOT Mannheim Steamroller! I just saw them again this past Sunday. Full string section, a sexy violinist who is as athletic as an Olympian, an entire stable of talented muscians playing rock and classical (dirty little secret- they're infested with Julliard graduates).

I won't be home for Christmas- Blink 182.

Outside the carolers start to sing
I can't describe the joy they bring
cos joy is something they don't bring me

My girlfriend is by my side
on the roof are hanging sickles of ice
Their whiny voices get irritating
It's christmas time again

So I stand with a dead smile on my face
wondering how much of my time they'll waste
Oh god, I hate these satan's helpers

And then I guess I must have snapped
because I grabbed a baseball bat
and made them all run for shelter

It's christmas time
again
it's time to be nice to the people who
you can't stand, all year
I'm growing tired of this chistmas cheer

you people scare me
please stay away from my home
if you don't wanna get me down
just leave the presents and let me be alone

Well I guess it's not cool to freak on christmas eve
cause the cops came and arrested me
they had an unfair advantage
and even though the jail didn't have a tree
christmas came a night early
as a guy named bubba unwrapped my package HOT DAMN!

It's christmas time
again
it's time to be nice to the people who
you can't stand, all year
I'm growing tired of this chistmas cheer

you people scare me
please stay away from my home
if you don't wanna get me down
just leave the presents and let me be alone

I won't be home
I won't be home for christmas
I won't be home
please post my bail!

"A Christmas Song" and "Another Christmas Song" by Jethro Tull. I also love "Greensleeves" done by both Tull and Acoustic Alchemy. But, if we're talking traditional stuff, I still like a good version of "Oh Holy Night" - I might not believe, but it's a beautiful peice of music.

I don't like Christmas songs. I thought I was being safe this year and started my Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving. Nope, The stores are already pumping that dreaded stuff through the stores. Next year I am doing all my shopping through magazines and the Internet.
