what is Meijer?

I thought it was a grocery store.
But it seems to have tv's and stuff.
is it like a super target? or walmart?

As Tony said............Meijer is a "super-store" much like Walmart. Meijer stores often, if not only, have much of their square footage devoted to a grocery section.

Meijer is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was one the earliest stores to offer a huge variety of goods/groceries in a time when K-Mart reigned supreme.

It was quite regional with very few stores outside of the SW part of the state until they began to expand (at least in MI) in the mid-late 70's.

Meijer remains a major player in ALL of Michigan now -and- has expanded to a few other States in the midwest and the South.

Meijer started out as Meijer's grocery store in 1934 by Hendrik Meijer. His son Fred Meijer took over and in 1962 opened Meijer's Thrifty Acres combining grocery shopping and department store shopping in a single large store. This was the first superstore in the world. In 1986 the Thrifty Acres was dropped and the stores became just known as Meijer.

Meijer is like Walmart and K-Mart ...it was actually founded in Greenville, Mi...the very first Meijer store is now empty but still standing in Greenville ..Fred and Lena Meijers are still alive and doing well in Greenville and donate to worhty causes ...they were in the Daily News Paper just the other night ...by the way that first Meijer store is on Lafayette st in Greenville,Mi

Yes, it's like a Wal-Mart / SuperTarget mega store. Based in Michigan.

It is half grocery store half department store.
They have full-service groceries.
The other half sells clothing, electronics, furniture, etc.
It is nice to be able to buy groceries and underwear in one trip.

Btw, it is mostly in the mideast. Ohio and Michigan primarily.
