Hello

Ok i was close to buying a ps3 off play.com, its the 40GB model for £280.00, however i then noticed it said
"Please Note! This model is not backward compatible with PS2 games."

Now im basically wanting to know if this is true or not ? My mates tell me that there is an update available when you buy it allowing you to play many ps2 games, is this true ?

Or is it only the 60GB model that has backwards compatibility ?

Please only answer if you are sure or if you own a ps3 and have knowledge on it !

Many Thanks ppl !

That is correct, the 40GB PS3 cannot play PS2 games, but it can play PS1 games.

The 60GB PS3 can play almost every single PS1 and PS2 game ever made because it has the Emotion Engine chip inside of it.

The 80GB PS3 uses software emulation to be backward compatible with PS1 and PS2 games and cannot play as many PS1 and PS2 games that the 60GB PS3 can.

It's just like he said above,

is a link to the Off. site if you, or your mates, still need convincing.
