An atheist is any person who does not have a belief in (a) god/s. Unlike what some people seem to think, atheists can believe in other things, just not god.

Atheist means "lack of belief in any deity". Thats ALL it means. There is no dogma, no ritual, or anything else. Therefore Atheism is not a religion. However, a religious person can be an Atheist as Buddhists are Atheist.

Atheist= non believer.
A= not, Theism= God
basically this means that they don't believe in a god. To go into further detail, there are 2 branches of Atheism:
Casual- just say there isn't a god
Philosophical-tries to prove there is no god.
i, myself, am a casual agnostic which means i don't know whether or not there is a god, nor do i really care. There are also 2 branches of Agnosticism:
Casual-just don't know if there is a god or not
philosophical-tries to prove both sides right or wrong
*to Lorenzo, you are wrong, an agnostic does not necessarily believe in a god. Agnostic means "A= not, Gnostos(think gnostalgia)= knowledge" They simply don't know whether there is a god or not.

diverse atheists could have diverse takes on their atheism. For me, it merely potential no "god/afterlife" concept. It does not exclude my ideals in different issues like the soul it particularly is created via and is residing interior the ideas.
