no, not all of them have cut off timers. What I suggest is getting her one of those plugs that turn themselves off. she can set it for ten mins which gives her plenty of time to straighten her hair and then it'll turn itself off.

I am the world's worst at forgetting to turn off my hair straightners. I've been using mine for over three years and I've never had a problem. After awhile, if it's not used it shuts off automatically. Good luck and Happy Holidays. 2D

No straightner has a cut off system, even if they say they do, they don't work, and are more likely to start a fire! If she continues to use it without turning it off I would suggest taking it away from her, at 14 years of age she should remember to turn it off. Teach her some responsiblity.

The new generation GHDs come with an automatic switch-off after 30 mins but the older version did not - don't know about cheaper brands but in my experience they don't usually have this feature.

in reply to one of the other answers up there ^
i wouldn't take them away from her .. even to teach her a lesson, because i'm 15 and i know that would be my worst nightmare !
but it depends on the straighteners she has .. my GHDs have a cutoff after an hour of being switched on..
not sure about other straighteners but if you search the web for reviews on whatever pair she has, it should tell you if they have a cutoff point or not

Yes most hair straightners have a safety on them where they automatically turn off when they have been on too long. Try searching on the brand of the hair straightener's webstite and they usually tell safety precautions on the straightener.

They can cause a fire easily, although some will cut off after 30 mins.

it can be dangerous as it can cause a fire.
remind her to do it and eventually it will turn into a habbit to switch it off and unplug it after she is done.

My daughter uses GHD straightners and in her rush to go out quite often leaves them on. They have been on all day and no harm done so far!
