We are spiritually separated from God whenever we sin. God cannot stand sin. There are a lot of people that are spiritually separated from God right now because they are living in sin. We are all sinners, but we must repent.

I do believe that God is physical. We were made in "his image" after all. To be spiritually separated from him is not not feel of his spiritu, his influence, his care and keeping, his love. It is to be banished to a place where we cannot feel his love. To be physically separated is self explanatory. We would not be in his presence. And that, would be a hell in and of itself--to know that we once were a part of his family, and now can not be there any longer.

It is like when a person goes to hell, and they are being tortured: you will be hungry, thirsty, depressed and feel every pain in hell, that would be physically seperated from God. Where as in heaven, you will not have any pain, worries, you will not thirst nor be hungry, you will have a place to stay. You will be happy forever. Spiritually is having the love of God and the word of God in your heart.

God is never separated from us. Jesus said He is with us always, even until the end of the world. We sometimes separate ourselves from Him spiritually by not relying on His love and guidance.

"This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate (physical bread), and died (physically), he who eats this (spiritual) bread shall live (spiritually) forever."
John 6:58
Spiritual separation is based on our sin. We are by default spiritual separated from God because of the sin we were born IN.
"And when you were (spiritually) dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you (spiritually) alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions."
Physical separation is Death.
But Jesus said to him, "Follow Me; and allow the (spiritually) dead to bury their own (physically) dead."
