I bet many will not observe the holiday, but will be pleased to have a paid holiday on their earnings. my relatives are Witnesses they do not observe the holiday but have their own religious festivals.

They usually will come over a day before or behind to visit with relatives from out of town, and that is how we handle out diverse religions in my family, and still manage to be a united family during the holiday season!

Why would I refuse to observe religious holidays??

I observe any and all chances to have a holiday.

Not only do I celebrate Christmas, Easter, Halloween and all other pagan festivals, I also observe the Feast of Maximum Occupancy, Black Panty Friday, Sweet Monkey Tuesday, Talk Like a Pirate Day, Groundhog Day, Arbour Day, New Year's Day, and of course Sweeps Week.

Heck, if I could, I'd take every single day of the year off work.

As soon as I see a religious tone to the observed federal holiday, I'll boycott it. You Christians should be the first to recognized that Christmas is no longer a religious holiday in practice or observance, especially when it comes to the Federal level of it.

And they give me the day off work, so I take it. Just like Sundays and Saturdays.

Though I do not consider myself a religious person, I do celebrate Christmas and Easter because my family does and for other reasons. Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ, yes, but over the centuries it has come to mean more than that. A gathering of family, friends, and warmth. Gifts for all. Santa Claus. The same goes for Easter. Spring weather, Easter eggs, and candy. I celebrate/observe these holidays because we all need a break to spend time with family and to keep traditions.

Some religious holidays are more secular than religious now. At christmas I spend time with family and give and receive presents, at easter I eat a lot of chocolate and on St. Patrick's day I do what any good catholic born Irish man does, I drink.

Don't be an exclusionist, let us atheists join the fun.

I observe some holidays that Christians observe, Christmas and Easter. But I do not observe them as Religious holidays. I observe Thanksgiving.

When I was working min wage jobs I requested to work on Christmas. Time and a half sounds good to me. Now my office is closed on Christmas so I can't work.

It doesn't make sense to me, there are more Jews in this office. Shouldn't we get the Jewish holidays off instead of Christmas?

Actually, that's one of the few parts of religion that I approve of. The creation of times to celebrate, times to mourn, times to ponder, etc. It's great to do these things in life.

And yes, I often volunteer to work on Christian holidays. But, I also sometimes take that day as a vacation day- since there's not a whole lot else to do.

Work's closed on Christmas, love. Besides, I celebrate the secular aspect of the holiday with my family. It's a cultural tradition.

I will observe the holidays. I also go to church every Sunday and bible study on Wednesdays. I am an atheist. I am not anti religion, in fact I think religion can play an important role in society. I just don't believe in any gods. The thought of someone creating us and then judging us on how we spend a very finite amount of time on earth and then punish or reward us for eternity based on decisions we made in that small amount of time just doesn't sit well with me
