Potato poisonings among dogs have occurred. Solanum alkaloids can be found in green sprouts and green potato skins, which occurs when the tubers are exposed to sunlight during growth or after harvest. The relatively rare occurrence of actual poisoning is due to several factors: solanine is poorly absorbed; it is mostly hydrolyzed into less toxic solanidinel; and the metabolites are quickly eliminated. Note that cooked, mashed potatoes are fine for dogs, actually quite nutritious and digestible.

Hopes that helps to ease your mind. .. ( :

Too many carbohydrates are not good for them.

My dogs are also obsessed with potatoes but also with raw carrots and any kind of fruits. I try not to let them have potatoes as they do not really agree with them and encourage them towards other veg.

I wouldn't give him too much potatoes ( we are talking raw here right ??????? ) You can't let him eat potatoes with green on them, or the eye of the potato.. Otherwise a little bit of raw potato now and then isn't a problem.. They also LOVE raw squash!

No, they aren't bad for him. My dogs love potatoes too, especially my dacshund... he likes to play with them and eat them. Sometimes we give them sweet potatoes instead because they have a lot more vitamins and antioxidants in them. Either way, let your dog enjoy his potatoes. :)

Cooked, peeled potatoes shouldn't be poisonous, but are starchy. I would feed cooked sweet potatoes or pumpkin (canned). More nutrition.
