Yes, all soldiers are trained in soldiering. That's why they call it Basic Combat Training (BCT). MPs definitely participate in patrols, just like civilian police. In fact, their primary purpose in combat is to guard convoys. If a MP is assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, he or she drop from a C17, C130, C141, CH47, or UH60 like everyone else. They have been known to lead ambushes in several South American conflicts, one was even led by a female platoon leader. MPs search for unexploded ordinance, but the chemical / ordinance corps specialize in detonating them.

The Military Police Corp is often referred to as the Force of Choice, we gained this motto during Operation Just Cause (and oh yeah some even JUMPED in). Military Police during Combat can do a multude of roles, from Route Recon, Deliberate Attacks, Dismounted Patrols through an urban terrain, and the list goes on. MP’s are trained as Soldiers and Police. Though to be Honest I have been an MP for 8 years now, and I have only done law enforcement for about a total of 10 months during that whole time. Now you do have your Garrison MP’s those are the ones that are on small bases and only do law enforcement, but if you are like me you have only been in a Line Company (those are the ones that train for Combat. During Training we do train to conduct ambushes, recon, route security, and of course Detainee Operations. Also Military Police are the major contributor to Army’s MOUT Training. The MP is a preferred force when it comes to Urban Environments, so much they are expanding the size of the Military Police Corp to twice it’s size (this will take a while) also we deploy a lot quicker than division as individual Units. A lot of people would be like that is not true, well for my Unit we have been Deployed 4 times in the past 6 years for a year at a time, with only a few months in between. Now for the Airborne MP’s any one who say’s MP’s are not Airborne are full of it. I went to Airborne School, my Commander was an Jump Master and we are both MP’s. Now as for EOD, that is its own MOS we find they take it or blow it up that is all we would do in that situation.

Patrols yes, Para school no(then again the average infantryman isn't jump qualified either!). We do conduct recon and ambushes occasionally(not our main job though) and the only EOD stuff I've done is chucking a grenade at a RPG round 'cause EOD was 45min out(not adviseable and stupid as hell, but I wasn't gonna sit out in the open w/ my rear quarters exposed waiting for them to finish chow!) No offense EOD folks just that I had stuff to do!
As Security Forces we're referred to as the Infantry of the Air Force. In past times we were masters of defensive tactics because we never operated outside the wire. Nowadays we're trying to take some weight off of the Army and give 'em a little break so we assumed duties outside the wire patrolling. Although we still stick close to the base we do get in the schizzle as it were.
I'd say that out of the 8 weeks I was in Tech School 7.5 of them concentrated on Air Base Defense(I.E. Learning Infantry skills based on defense).

Of course they are trained in soldiering come on OK the key word here is (Military) the go through boot camp n train for combat juts like any other soldier what do u think they do enlist get a gun n badge n start patrolling.
R u getting military police mixed up with special forces who do all of the latter u-r- asking some military police r trained in what u ask but not all it all depends on what there previous specialty was in military training or civilian life and what they requested to be trained in upon entering the military as well and there is a military police school they do have to go through one is stationed at Fort McCullen,Alabama my sister in law was one and I am also ex-military OK!!

Not gonna jump as an MP, not gonna do any kind of EOD as a MP ( that's why the Army has a MOS for that), MP's do go on patrol. Infantry does the ambushes, parachuting and stuff like that.

Soldering? You mean trained to install electrical components on PC boards? I doubt most MP's have the dexterity to accomplish this task.

MP's function similar to motorized infantry in combat.

Look up "Raven 42" in a search engine sometime.
