Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this.

Our family cat has had a small boil, looks like a blister but isn't on his lip for about I think two weeks now & it bothers him sometimes. How can I treat it from getting worse without going to the vet?

I've heard cats are prone to absesses. Is this true also?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you all for your replies so far. In response to the third suggestion, I did notice as well that our cat was starting to eat mosquitoes and flies if he could catch them. Do you think that has anything to do with it?

It may be a "rodent ulcer." My cat had one, but not vet could seem to figure it out. We went through over $1500 worth of tests and ointments, treatments, etc...it was crazy.

One vet told me that it was a very rare strange disease and that he should be put down.

I know that they do their best, but it was crazy.

In any event, the link has some good information. I think that my cat's appeared after I fumigated the house for fleas and he had it for 2+ years then when we moved to Alaska he escaped and was "on the lamb" for about a month. When I finally got him back (thanks for his chip) it was all cleared up, but it seems like the ulcer killed the skin that it was on and he has a weird scar now--but he seems pretty happy and is healthy so...

Hope this helps.

I am not sure about the flies and mosquitos--I think that is pretty normal for cats. I Just mentioned the fleas b/c that is when I think that my cat developed the ulcer. I have 3 cats and it did not seem to be contagious at all, but the one cat was an only cat when we got fleas and bombed the house to get rid of them. Then he developed some scabby things around his nose and mouth and finally ended up appearing to be a "rodent ulcer" (like the photo on the web link).

It never appeared to hurt him and he ate, drank and played just fine. I used to say that he had Angelina Jolie lips :)...it was weird that it cleared up while he was MIA. As an aside, he is also the one cat that seems to have other skin problems (i.e. hot spots)...so I am using the nutro natural cat food tp him as it seems to be free of most of the allergins in other food and his water and food is in glass bowls (not plastic)

Yes sometimes they go away on their own, but with it being on the lip it is most likely painfull and should see a vet. IT may get infected since it is by the mouth.

My cats have had MANY abscesses in their lives. It could happen as a result of a wound from a fight, a bad tooth, etc. If it gets puss and stinky drainage, that's infection and needs an antibiotic.

You may need a vet. It may need drained and he may need internal antibiotics.
