I think it's better to have 2 or 3 children. If the couple only has one child, the child will be lonely with no one to be a companion; and if something bad happened to the child, the couple's misery would be hard to imagine. But actually, China is still adopting the one-child policy, which is to some degree ridiculous and unreasonable to the people of other countries. On the other hand, it's also not good to have too many children however much money you have. It's not a matter of money, if it were, maybe Gates already has a town of kids. It's the matter that if you have enough spirit and energy to raise your children. You must make sure that each of your children can be taken good care of, I mean, not only the care of money but also the care of love.

I think it depends on their finances. If a family like the Dougars can have 16 children and not get any money from the government then there's no reason why they couldn't have that many or more. It people that have a large family but are on state or federal assistance that should not continue to have children. There's no magical number for how many children people should have. Just be able to support your family on your own dollar, and not mine.

No more than 4 or 5 at best. There just isn't enough time in the day to give all the attention each individual child should get, IMHO. Fewer if one of the children has a significant health issue (or the parent). That doesn't even address the money issues. Consider also overpopulation problems or if something happens to both parents. I know only one family that took all 5 children in (they already had 3). Many sibling groups are split up.

A couple should have only as may children as they have patience for and have the finances to support (which doesn't mean they have to buy each kid a car, or pay for college, but they should be able to pay for activities like Little League for each child).
We have 2. We always wanted a large family, but 2 is probably our limit financially and emotionally. Of course, if we were blessed with another child, we would make it work.

As many as they want to have. Children are a blessing from God. My husband and I have 5 children under the age of 9. If we made more money, we would have more.

theoretically i think the answer is 2.1 children per couple to cover for us when we die but we really need to slow the birth rate in 3rd world countries such as india and china etc. the US Australia and most other western nations have a negative birth rate which needs to be raised but it's the third world countries that are eating us out of house and home

depends on what you want for your kids and if you can give them everything you want to give them and theyll still be in a great environment. Some people cant handle one child others can handle 4 or 5. i personally want 3 kids i already have 2 but I love big families and all the love in them. I know this i was the only child and I hated it. i hated being alone and was always envious of people who had syblings.

That is up to the couple. It is their personal choice. If they wanted 2 and the mother is expecting twins in her next pregnacy when they have 1 child already, then more to love. You cannot predict pregnacies. It takes three to get pregnant. Higher Power, sperm, egg.

As many as they want AND can afford.
Ideally I'd like to have about six kids.
Realistically I can afford to raise and educate four without detracting from our lifestyle. So, the next will be the last.
