I consider it defense of the faith, and not "bashing", unless you consider Jesus, Paul, and Peter "bashers".

Cathy, you did not define Fundamentalists Christians. Fundamentalist word has different meaning to different people. I understand “Born Again”, as this phrase was used by Jesus while talking to Nicodemus (John 3: 1-18). What is the difference between moderate and liberal Christians ? I never heard the term “Non-Christian Religious Practitioners”. Do you mean Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc.
For example, my definition of a Liberal Christian is one who endorses and follows the liberal agenda of secular humanists. You & other may have different definition.
I agree with Midge, that all people should be treated with respect. However, there cannot be a unity apart from doctrines/theology. A "Born Again" Christian would not consider a Liberal Christian or a Catholic as a true Christian; while a Catholic would consider a Protestant as heretic, as echoed by Pope Benedict XVI statement that Protestant denominations, cannot, according to Catholic doctrine, be called 'churches' in the proper sense.
Recognizing our doctrinal differences, when we disagree with others, we should state our position in a respectful manner.

They actually think they are doing God a favor just like Paul did when he terrorized the first Christians but, there are some distinctions that can be made with your lumping so many people together there. All people should be treated with respect though and the verbiage used by so many of the fundamentalists is really abusive. They should take out and dust off the part about the definition of love

I do not regularly read this site, but I think even if you disagree with others, you should state that in a respectful manner in a forum such as this. If one resorts to bashing, it just shows his own ignorance and as one that should not be taken seriously.
There are some cases in which people state completely wrong opinions that would negatively affect unthinking people who might read it. In such cases, one might state a counter to such opinion respectfully but very strongly, and it might be ok to call that same opinion wrong, if you have solid reasons and justification to back it up.
If name calling is going on, that is only ignorance, like the people who appear on the Jerry Springer show.

The phrase auto de fe refers to the ritual of public penance of condemned heretics and apostates that took place when the Spanish Inquisition or the Portuguese Inquisition had decided their punishment (that is, after the trial). Auto de fé in medieval Spanish means "act of faith".

bentheguru, I honestly have weighed the will of it with the aid of the question asked. If i think of that a factor of reference might help to clairify the respond i'm giving, i'm going to write Protestant Christian in the respond. If i do no longer, i do no longer. i'm born lower back, yet would not label myself as a Born lower back Christian. so some distance as i understand, even Born lower back Christians might right now label Methodist/Lutherans/Presbyteri... as going to Hell. additionally innovations you, that some right here pose as Christians so as that they are in a position to defame Christianity. only like some come on right here and faux to be blacks with radical and damaging statements. you do no longer continually see what your getting, in different words.

here you go guys...
"The phrase auto de fe refers to the ritual of public penance of condemned heretics and apostates that took place when the Spanish Inquisition or the Portuguese Inquisition had decided their punishment."
Oh, and for those not sure about "apostate"... its someone who has denounced their faith.
To your question: Christians don't generally operate that way. The bashing is a knee-jerk reaction by people who don't think much before they rant.

How can some Christians call it 'defending their faith' when they go out and start the bashing themselves??

I don't do "bashing". Open-minded discussion is more my style. Season and logic are far more effective than hate.
