I just moved into a new apartment, and bought an air matress to sleep on. My roomate let me use one of his down comforters and pillows, and that's what I've been sleeping on lately. A few days ago I noticed a few bites on a wrist and on both ankles that itched like crazy, but they were far too small to be mosquito bites, and plus I live in Seattle and have yet to see a mosquito since I moved here.

Tonight I woke up about three hours after I went to sleep with at least a dozen bites on my left ankle alone, a bunch on my right ankle up to the knee, and bites on both forearms. I just got done crawling throughout my room checking everything I could think of with a flashlight, and I can't see a thing. What in the world could this be?

There are no pets, and from what I know of scabies this is not it.

Did you wash the comforter and pillow? Whatever's getting you is probably in one of them.

It might be scabies. Old bedding tends to have them. My son got them at a friend's house (frighteningly, the house was a bed and breakfast!). They were red, and kind of made a line on his skin. Itched! A trip to the doctor was required. He got a prescription for some kind of ointment, and that was that.

I'd get my own bedding, too. You can get sheets, blankets, pillows etc at WalMart for very little money...certainly less than a second trip to the doctor would cost.

I had the same problem. I got bitten during the night and it was all over. They're called fruit flies. They're small, really small, and they can come from plants. Leave a piece of fruit out, or even a peel to test it out. I left fruits out and they swarmed for it. Other then that, you have to wait for them to die.

Best of luck to you!

PS. Just found a website on how to get rid of fruit flies. I'll leave it in the source list. :)

It sounds like fleas because they do head for the ankles. They could have come in on your roomate's comforter. Those little buggers can live forever. Get rid of the bedding and see what happens.
