OMG, I had a boyfriend who bought me an iron for my birthday. He didn't even wrap it. He just handed it to me in the box. I told him wtf is that? He told me that was my present and was astonished that I didn't like it and told me I could return it. I was mortified. He returned it for an ugly super plus-sized shirt that would never fit me in a million years. I was so upset I returned the gift along with his gift (his birthday was two weeks after mine) and took myself and my daughter out to eat. The following Christmas he bought me a cordless screwdriver. Needless to say, I told him don't buy me anymore gifts because he was horrible at gift giving. But the relationship didn't last and now I'm married to a man that knows how to give gifts. Even if it's just a card he puts thought into it. At least my husband doesn't picture me with an iron or a screwdriver. Good luck. 2D

A sweater given to me by one of my aunts. I was about 15 years old at the time and looking back a few years ago that sweater would have been back in style. Too bad it went to the needy.

What was disappointing was that they treated my siblings and I like we were charity cases. We would all prefer not to get anything because what they did give us was crap and had absolutely no sentimental value. While the little kids from the other cousins were getting brand new stereos and video games. And here we are sitting holding our ugly sweaters and cheap cologne and I remember my Mom once got what looked like used kitchen utensils. And this was a family that had money, it's not like they had to count pennies to get stuff. But it was my Dad's family and they've always been like that. Yet we go to my Mom's family who are dirt poor and we had the greatest time! Us girls got these cute little perfume bottles and the boys got wallets or gloves. They were small gifts but meant soooooo much.

I love the flashlight story from the other post. I think you got us all beat so far.

Merry Christmas all!!!

When I was in college and had already had a drivers license for more than a year, I got a book from someone "How to be an Expert Driver". Also there were gifts to my son which were terribly annoying - from my ex - like a little battery powered hobo Santa that walked, smashed cymbals together and flashed lights. Also, a girlfriend gave my son some stuff someone had given her daughter the year before (regifted). One was a "talking book". He loved it but I got tired of it fast! Another was a t-shirt he would never ever wear and which would not fit him. Finally, the daughter of another girlfriend gave my son a "Ken" doll for Christmas (the mother had 3 daughters). Guess how long it took for my son to decapitate Ken.

About 10 years ago, I asked my husband for a Moody Blues CD. When I opened the gift, knowing very well it was a CD, because of the way it was wrapped, I got very excited. Once I opened it though, to my dismay, it was a Dire Straits CD. My reaction was deplorable. I complained profusely to my husband and demanded an explanation. I even said the f word to him.
My husband was kindhearted about it, though, and handed me a 20 dollar bill, and he told me that I could use that to buy a Moody Blues CD. Then, I thought of a good virtue. I handed the twenty dollars back to my husband and apologized to him for my bad attitude and ungratefulness and
gave him a hug and a thank you for his gift. Now I have more Cd's of Dire Straits in my home than the Moody Blues.

It wasn't the "worst" gift, but one that I'll always remember was my grandmother giving me a flashlight for Christmas one year. She said that she remembered my mom mentioning how much I hated having to go to the bathroom in the dark in the middle of the night but I hated turning on the bright lights, so she thought a flashlight would be a big help. I just looked at my dad with a confused expression, he told me to smile and say 'thank you', so I did, and everything was ok. It wasn't the only present she gave me that year, but I thought it was kind of funny.

I have a friend that makes gift baskets. For a wedding gift, I received a very cheap set of shower gel and lotion in a basket with a bottle of sparkling cider (that was left over from my reception!!!) We got so many other nice gifts though, that I was able to put it out of my mind.

A little wooden clown puppet which I got when I turned 10.
It was from my aunt, and I didnt want to dissapoint her [even though it was an unwanted gift passed to me..] The clown had this weird evil smile and it used to really freak me out. And I remember it used to sit on my shelf staring at me when I went to bed... *shivers*

Christmas 2000. I got a cheap painted plastic angel from the dollar store from my HASBEEN. You might say, husband. I was disgusted and didn't try to hide it at all. I told him just what kind of a88 I thought he was. I wonder to this day WHY, WHY, WHY I married the loser. We had been married for 3 months by then. He got fired from his job the first month of the marriage. What a LOSER.
I filed for divorce in January. Best thing that ever happened to me was when I got that court document saying I was free!

A very cheap replica watch, the number were not even well placed. I was given by a customer. I think the bag holding the watch was worth more then the watch itself.
