I wouldn't like to go as far as saying i respect one more than the other....i'm sure the right person in the right role does a wonderful job. I personally have found the nurses i've seen, better for me than the docs i've seen. The nurses seem to be more interested in you and making sure you're happy and comfortable with what you've been told etc Where as my doctor seems to just prescribe pills to get rid of you...she gave me a cocktail of pills to try once in to shorter space of time i ended up in hospital with blood poisening and nearly died. But thats her personally. Not all doctors.

Both deserve respect. I respect my nursing colleagues, and couldn't do what I do without them.
Believe it or not, the vast majority of us just want to work well together to help patients.

they're as different as a traffic cop and a judge.
Nurses usually do the majority of the grunt work, while doctors make "the big decisions". Nurses handle the hands-on work like giving injections and cleaning up people that puke and poop all over themselves. Gotta give them respect for putting up with the yuckys.
Doctors are giant walking medical databases. they have to diagnose symptons, or perform delicate operations, but they have to constantly be aware of all sorts of additional factors. blood pressure, allergies, lethal combinations of medication, etc... they go to years of extra schooling and if they get something wrong...you could DIE! gotta respect them for managing that much information under pressure.
Of course they're both just crazy leeching quacks that want to bleed you AND your wallet!

it depends on the person, not the title. i have known incredible doctors and nurses, as well as bottom dwelling scum suckers in both fields. it depends on the quality of their education, ethics, how current they are in their knowledge, their enthuasiasm and love for their job, and how much they actually care about their patients. bedside manner also goes a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way.

EACH KNOWS A GREAT DEAL OF INFORMATION ON THE PATIENT. NURSES FOLLOW MD'S ORDERS IF APPROPRIATE.
