The problem with most church people is they are too comfortable . They are judgemental and they are ineffective because they are stuck in a building. The
church is not a building the church is a group of people who gather in a building to strengthen each other in order to aid them through the week .
We won't ever be able to reach anyone if we stay in our comfort zone because
it is not about how you look, how you dress ,its not about going to a building ,or even being a preacher People should respect you without you having to announce that you are a christian. Your life should be such you don't have to wear a collar for people to know you are representing god but in a lot of cases we say one thing and live another and your actions say way more than anything that could come out of your mouth. Thats why children are acting up
you tell them one thing and do something else. You have live what you preach
and preach what you live and no one is perfect

Depends on what you mean by "kick it"...if you mean choosing to act in a way that misrepresents God then it is a big issue. If even one person comes to a mistaken conclusion about God because of your behavior, then you are responsible. Having said that, I would suggest that the "Christian" behavior you described (staying in our comfort zone, worrying about the way your dress, etc...) IS misrepresenting God's will for us.

Jesus made it pretty clear that God wants us to interact with the world...to be in the world but not of it. Being in the world means being a part of it...if you hide from the world, you aren't "in" it...and if you alter you beliefs and values to be in the world, then you are most definitely "of" the world. It is a delicate balance between interacting with people where they are and not allowing this interaction to influence you to do something contrary to God's instructions.

Lots of people are like that, but lots of people are also trying to do more radical things if your interested in getting involved and are in the UK go on the HOPE 08 website there are loads of programs going on next year to clean up city centres etc I'm personally hoping to go to one in Cardiff because I know that I am quite often like all those people who live differently to what they say which is why I am trying to step out and do something for God
