My sisters son had a stroke while she was giving birth. He is mentally retarded with autism and started acting out at an early age. Throwing things, hitting, biting etc. My sister was at her ends wits. She was breaking down frequently. She finally enrolled him at a special school where he now lives. He is now thriving, happy, no more behaviors and they even have him working in a bank!!! While Zach has no clue why he is there everybody at the bank loves him. He has been threw multiple surgeries has no use of his left arm, but he has a big smile and a warm heart. We later found out that with his retardation that Zach was bored for the most part and that is why he would act out, he still gets his "grump on" when he doesn't feel good and that is the only way for him to communicate that something is not "right".

Zach is the apple of my eye, he loves semi's and since I now drive a truck (I worked in medicine for 13 yrs) once a year (at Christmas) I fire up my Semi and off we go. He will repeat all year long "go for a ride in tractor/trailer @ Christmas"

I guess why I'm sharing this story is because I can relate to the frustration, the helplessness you feel, knowing there is nothing you can do too fix it. You can always try more activities to see if that helps, I don't know the extent of her injuries.

My email is open if you ever want to talk.
While it was a frustrating road I thank God everyday that I have that little guy in my life.

Wow give her a break at least, she is only 11 years old and if she suffered brain trauma then that could very well be the cause. Damage to the brain early in development can cause a lot of problems.

Its your family's job to make sure SHE does not go through hell for; what I assume was some neglect of the parents.
Stop complaining and try to be a halfway decent person.

Depression and other mood disorders commonly occur after traumatic brain injury and also after concussion sometimes. It is very important to get the child to a neurologist who is experienced in this sort of thing so that the child can be treated and monitored.
